I will be a yorkie owner soon Hi All, after much research (and contacting what turned out to be not so good "breeders"), I am buying a female Yorkie from Kim Balas at Mistiblue Yorkies in New York. She appears to be a wonderful, knowledgeable breeder who answered all my questions and is in constant contact with me via e-mail. I haven't had a dog in my house since I was a kid. I am really, really excited about going to get Beanie (that is her name, like a little jelly bean) on November 19th. She will be 4 months old and is going to be an "indoor" dog mostly. I think she is going to be 5 - 6 lbs. when grown. She is already trained to go in a litter box. I am excited but really nervous since I live alone and have to work. I am taking the whole week off to be with Beanie and get her used to me and her new apartment. But after that I will have to leave her home alone all day. I am getting a good sized ex-pen and I will leave her food, water toys and her crate (or should I just leave a little bed??) I am planning on having her sleep in her crate in my bedroom at night. I am just so afraid she will freak out and bark all day. I would appreciate any tips, encouragement, anyone else's stories of being a brand new, never before Yorkie owner and also leaving them home alone. Thanks for reading, |

1 Attachment(s) Hi all, here is a picture of Beanie at 3 months old. She weighs 2.5 lbs. When I get her on November 19th, she will be 4 months old. I have already gotten a lot of good information from the different forums here!! |
Welcome to yt! Beanie is a cutie!! Congrats on the new addition:) |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! It sounds like you will have a good set up for Beanie. It think it would be good to be consistent and keep her crate in with her during the day so she has somewhere to hide away when you are gone. |
Aww Beany is so cute, congrats on your sweet baby |
Congratulations on your new baby! She is a cutie :) |
Congratulations on your new baby!! Great idea to use a large ex-pen while you're at work with everything she will need in it. Because she's so tiny, be sure that she can't crawl under the pen - that's what my Sadie did - LOL!! Hard to keep the little ones confined - they always seem to find a way out! |
Well, I may have some really good news that will drastically reduce my anxiety about Beanie. I MAY be moving to a 2 family house. I would be on the second floor (not the horrendous third like I am on now). It is my very good friend's family home and she and her husband are home all day long, and I am sure they wouldn't mind checking on a very cute doggie. It is only a mile from my work, so I could walk to work if I wanted and going home for lunch to check on Beanie would be NO problem if I choose to drive to work. There is a nice little patio to sit on in the summer and a park right near there. It would be so easy to take Beanie out to potty and exercise!! This situation would be so much better for both of us. Plus all the utilities, including cable, etc. are included in the rent. She is going to talk to her husband to see about taking less rent from me, rather than renting to a stranger. I DO hope it works out. I am so ready for a change. I never do anything the easy way, what the heck, get a new doggie AND move at the same time. If this works out, I am going to ask the breeder if she will keep her a little longer so I don't have to move her to one place, then have her go through all the chaos of moving myself and her to ANOTHER place. I hope she agrees!! Everyone please send me good vibes so that this happens. |
Moving closer to work is a great idea .Especially then you can go check on your little darling. I hope you get the apt , this sounds very exciting. I like the idea to ask the breeder to keep her a little longer so you can settle in first. That way Beanie is not making too many transitions all at once. You are going to love being a yorkie mom. Once you have her you will wonder whay you waited ;) |
