What is this about?? Hi All My senior yorky myles just peed on my floor after I had the puppy in the house for a period of time running around. Rudy is 10mths old and Myles is 14 yrs old he nevers pees in the house unless he is sick and that is poop mostly cause he gets colitis So I have been trying to put Rudy in the whole house w/ Myles at times to get them adjusted to one another and I noticed after I put Rudy back in the living room w/ the gate up Myles was smelling around the kitchen where Rudy was before and squatted and peed I was in shock what is this about? Is he showing him that is his territory? It is funny there is a change in Rudy now when he is around Myles he doesnt bark at him like he used to but Myles is the one that dont stop barking at Rudy that is sooo annoying I have to put Rudy back in the one room I dont know when they will just mingle and not bark. Will this get better when Rudy is one? Thanks Denise |
It sounds like he his showing his dominance or possibly even marking his territory. As far as the barking you need to treat it like any other unwanted behavior and nip it in the budd. Correct the behavior the moment he starts, even before if possible. Correc it the moment you see him getting ready to bark. I HOPE YOU ARE A PATIENT PERSON, BARKING IS VERY HARD TO BREAK ! |
Your old guy is probably not up to a real fight. Peeing is his way of saying, this is mine. Although some trainers disagree with me, I think it is ok to point to the pee and gently scold the older dog. Shake your head and look sad, say NO, NO. I am NOT saying to rub his nose in the pee or ever hit him. Just let him see what he did make you sad, and you know he did it, not the puppy. To help with the barking, look under General Training section and read the Sticky thread titled: Enough Barking. Hope this helps. |
Thank you for your replies. Yes I did say to Myles no dont do that. As far as the barking I can hit Rudy when they get together and he doesnt stop but to do that to Myles I dont think is right. I tell Myles tooo to stop the barking, but this is his way of saying I am the boss. I know i have to be real patient it is not easy. Thanks |
Denise, I think Myles is marking. This is very normal. Make sure you give both equal time and love. Please keep us updated. |
