Bentley's a little grumpy :( Since we brought our new rescue boxer in Bentley has gotten a little grumpy. She's just so rough when she plays. He tells her off and I allow it bc I feel like she may learn that way. At 11 months old I know she's still a puppy but I don't know what to do. I don't want her bullying my Bentley. She's a great dog and we already love her and Bentley and her get along. She is just so high energy and I want Bentley to know that he is still my little baby and not to be all grumpy. I make sure I give him his own time everyday away from her. Is there anything else I should be doing to make this transition easier. I mean, I brought in a newborn baby and it was easier. Haha! Just want to do it right and I want Bentley to know I love him as much as I always have. He's cuddled with me on the couch right now and that makes me feel much better. :) |
Ha sibling rivalry!! |
I think he just needs a little time. It seems like you are doing everything right. :) |
How much does Bentley weigh? |
He weighs 4lbs. She weighs 41lbs. Haha! But how he acts I don't think she knows it. :) |
That's quite a size difference. I think I'd be grumpy too. Do you have any concerns about her accidentally hurting him? |
I was very worried at first but for the most part she is very gentle with him. I don't allow rough housing in the house. From any of my babies. Skin and fur. Haha! So when Dixie gets that way she goes outside. Bentley eggs her on sometimes. I don't let them outside in the backyard w/o supervision wither. Outside is where I worry most. She starts running so fast and I worry she will run into him. She isn't huge but she can certainly knock even me over running like that. So I always go with them. I don't worry that much about it though. I watch closely but she seems to know he is tiny. I doubt they will ever be able to play really tho. She can't play with my doxie either. So we go to the dog park so she can be rough and get that out. We are teaching her that to play with Bentley she needs to lay down so she is closer to his height. I don't think size is why Bentley is grumpy. Haha! He lived with 3 large (larger than Dixie) dogs while my husband was deployed. I'm hoping with some adjustment time, they will be cuddled up on the couch together. Dixie isn't allowed right now bc that's Bentley's "safe" place. :) |
One thing to do is always feed Bentley first. In the doggy world that makes him #1. Also, if possible greet Bentley first when you come home. :) |
