Nature's Miracle We're about to move out and our apartment had a minor doggy smell to it. My husband saturated the carpet with Nature's Miracle then used our Rug Doctor to extract the excess. He said he could tell it pulled up a lot of stuff - more so than any other thing we've used. It smelled better in the house yesterday right after he used it, but by early morning and especially by the time we got off of work this morning the house smells HORRIBLE. It smells like musky ammonia. From what I've read it seems like this is normalish? Like the enzymes are breaking down the bacteria or something and I read that after it dries, the carpet won't smell any more. I don't know what to do now... I bought a second bottle but don't know if I should try to air out the place and put a fan to dry the area quicker or to go over it again with the second bottle then air it out? Or maybe lift up the carpet and clean the padding with it? Any ideas? |

I myself have never used the carpet shampoo, but I've read good things about it. I only have carpeting in my 3 bedrooms, but am strongly considering ripping it all out. Carpet's so gross! Good luck with your carpet and please let me know how things work out. |
I don't like the Rug Doctor myself. I don't think it extracts as much as it should. We had a pipe break in the wall not long ago and used the rung doctor to clean the rug. The rug ended up being wetter after we used it than before. Anything that stays wet that long could possibly grow mold or mildew. I ended up using my little rug shampooer to draw more water out of the rug. I have never had much use for Nature's Miracle either. I started using a product by Purina for accidents when I got Gracie. It works great and has a deodorizer in it as well. Maybe as you open the windows and put some fans on it the rug will dry and then you will know more about how it smells. I found the Purina stain and odor remover at Walmart in the pet department. |
Carpet I have used Nature's Miracle and was quite pleased with it, when Sprocket first came to live with us we had a few issues but the natures miracle and the carpet cleaner fixed them. Now I never used a cleaning solution in the carpet cleaner, just hot water, and "steamed" it and then opened the doors and set a fan on the carpet to dry, no smell, at least to me and I'm kinda picky. I still use the carpet cleaner about every two or three months, just because, but still only water, the water perks up the threads in the carpet. But then another dog will smell it, no matter what, just so long as your realtor doesn't and you get your money back. Air dry might work, but if they know you have dog it will always smell it some people :rolleyes: Sorry not much help. |
As a last resort.. most professional carpet cleaning companies have some amazing formulas that work really well. It may be with paying to have it done. |
I had my carpets cleaned last February after nearly a year of poor potty training. One can only imagine.:rolleyes: After they came & did every single spot she could fit it smelled so nice & fresh. Then the next day it smelled HORRIBLE like pee. I called the company & they said it's normal for a little while. I think it was about a week later & the smell went away. And Princess became more successful than ever at training. Also, if you contact Nature's Miracle they will tell you about how much product you'll need per square foot for them to guarantee it will work. It's insane, though, and to do a large area like an apt. or house I think it'd be much cheaper to have a pro do it. Hopefully yours is already starting to dissipate by now. |
The spot that is the worst is right in the bedroom in front of the door and in the hall way on the other side of the bedroom door, so that is the area we treated. When I left for work today I put a large fan on the floor in the bedroom and when I came home it still stunk to high heaven and the carpet was damp. I turned off the fan and now the carpet in that area doesn't smell much at all. It's just the rest of the house that does... the fan blew all the nasty smelling air through the rest of the apartment so I think I just need to open some the sliding glass door and the bedroom window to let some fresh air circulate. Hopefully this does the trick. I think I'll probably sprinkle some deodorizing powder on the carpet too then vacuum it up. Maybe that will help some too. |
It's usually whats going on in the under pad that causes the problems. Some rental contracts say you have to have the carpet professionally cleaned anyway. Hope the smell fades. Having some fresh air circulating should help. |
