vet advice plz I brought Kaos to the vet to make an appointment for his full checkup yesterday, and he was shaking like a leaf! He has never been there before, and he has never ever done that anywhere before. (And he goes everywhere cause hes a service dog) im really baffled as to why he was? He goes back later today for his apppointment, and im nervous now that he will be the same way. Is there anything I can do to make him feel better? Thanks for any advice..:( |
I think they can sense where they are. Abby trembles bad at the vet's office. Riley is not as bad. |
Mine both love going to the vet. If I ask them "do you want to go see Dr Sykes" they get all excited and when we pull up outside they go nutszo. My vet(s) are great. |
This is why I don't understand his fear. He's never been there before, he's had no bad experiences there. They all seem very nice as well. |
My little Izzy has anxiety shakes when we take her to the Vet. She wants to crawl up one of us and hide. I hate that she is so afraid so we do our best to calm her down and offer her assurance that she will be alright, it is so sad:( |
I think Kaos knows where he is (these little ones are very intelligent)! It amazes me that Romeo is usually calm on the way to the vet's and just as I approach the bldg he begins to shake and whimper. Once inside he will play until it's time for the exam and then he becomes a MONSTER. |
Kaji use to be the same way with his old vet. He would tremble, whimper, whine, and just want to bolt out the door. His old vet was great, but lacked good bedside manner. She is also the one that took Kaji's manhood away. Maybe he's holding a grudge? With the new vet, they listened when I told then he was fearful, and took the time to make him comfortable. Kaji tembled the first time we went to the new vet, but now marches in like a trooper, plays in the lobby, and plays with the vet when she gets there. He's gone as far as making out with her! |
I guess Callie is weird she absolutely loves our vets office and all the staff tail wags like crazy when we go in and she has had shots there, had to be sedated to have her dew claw fix and everything. The vet techs have fought over who gets Callie because when they have to do anything to her she just sits and lets them do it. I'm sorry he doesn't like the vets office maybe it will get better the second time he goes. My moms yorkie Sammy seems to poo when he is scared and did that the first two times we went to the vet but this last time he did not poo so maybe they get used to it. |
Peanut is the same way! Once we turn down the street he kinda gets excited bc his Day care is right behind the Vet. Then he realizes we are pulling up to the vet and he starts shaking!! Not sure what it is but he shakes and is a nervous nelly! |
YAY! Just got back from the vet and..he's perfectly healthy! Knees, teeth, bloodwork are all good. Negative for heartworm/lyme. He got his shots and didn't even cry! :D |

maybe its the smell of the place? like when we as humans go into a dentist office, that smell evokes fear in me too |

I agree..probably the smell of all the other dogs. As to the dentist...that's me! Oh..and the sound of that drill... I can be just getting my teeth cleaned & if I hear that drill going in the next room I feel faint. I'm glad to hear everything went well & Kaos got a clean bill of health :) |
My Brandi shakes as well but I think she's a bit of a drama queen. My groomer told me once that as soon as I leave, Brandi stops shaking and whining. Maybe because she can't show fear.....I dunno but apparently she only does it when I am there to cuddle her and reassure her. |
