Well Dh and I finally did it! We built a dog run for Peanut!! Yeay! We had to use one of our side doors, made a hole like a "doggy door" so he can go in and out. Dh is still going to bolt it down so it cant be moved!!

Now this guy has no excuse to potty in the house!! So far we have had it open since Sat and we have had 0 accidents!!! Yippppe I think we have it this time! I can almost say my 4 year old is potty trained!!

Dh is also going to get a rain guard to put on top when it starts to rain, Peanut is very high class and doesn't like to get wet!

I can't believe how much he loves being out there, he loves to be in the sun! Usually I would have to be out there with him bc of hawks and coyotes and all those other things that would love to make Peanut a snack!! :D

I love it! All yesterday WITHOUT me or DH telling him to go potty he went by his self!! THIS IS BIG!! :D

This is great ! I have been wanting a simular set up with the doggy door off of my back porch. The whole back yard is fenced with 5ft chain link. I block the doggy door if I have to go some where briefly with out the doggies (like the doctor, grocery and so on) there is no roof, so birds can still get to the doggies. Your set up looks really safe. I really like what you did. I plan to share your pictures with my son. Maybe we can buy one of the dog run kits from Lowes, I think it would work like the one you have. Thanks for sharing !

Thank you. Well I know they sell bird netting, you can put the bird netting on the top so birds can not go in there!! Let me know if you have any questions! We bought our dog run from Home Depot, I believe it was @270$ We are going to get a real doggy door, for now we just cut a hole in the screen and leave the door open. When I am gone at work or running errands he stays in his play pen.. Until we get a real doggy door that's how it has to be!

I love it. I am still kinda nervous to leave him out there when I am not home. I think once I get the real doggy door and DH bolts it down I will feel a little better but I am such a nervous nelly. I always think a coyote is going to jump my fence and try to get him!! LoL This is still new to me so I need to get a little more comfortable with it :D For the most part when I am home I feel that he is protected!! :D

Yea I can understand it would still make you nervous untill you get used to it. I would love to do something like that for my yorkies and my cats. I have a gazebo on my back porch though so I cant. It was a great idea you came up with though.

Did you buy the enclosure with the roof or attach it yourself?

Dh bought an extra roll of chain link fence, I think it was 8x10 roll and he installed it on there..

Your set up is really great looking.
I know I wouldn't want to leave him out there when you weren't at home. I just think there are too many things that can happen. But I think it's Ok when you are home, because you can check on him.

I'm so jealous....I want one for Brandi. The cat on the other hand has created her own "dog run" that they both use. She clawed a hole in the bottom of the screen leading out to the second floor deck.:p After years of fighting her on this I gave up and she finally won. There's no steps leading downstairs so they are perfectly safe.

They both lounge out there and pretty much go in and out as they please but Brandi will not go potty out there for some strange reason. Probably because there's no grass.

That is such an awesome idea for the yorkies the right size to be hawk pray. Callie is bigger so we didn't have to worry about that but when she was 95% potty train and we were having a slight problem with the other 5% we got a doggie door and she never had anymore accidents even if she is somewhere there is no doggie door she will not go potty unless she is outside.

What a great idea! I agree that you need to bolt it down.. You never know what could happen. It must feel great knowing he can go out safely without you :D

Well the dog run is made by Pet Safe, they are out of TN. Not sure where it is manufactured, but maybe you can contact them :D

Ok...I'm jealous. You got to love a man who can do this! I wish I could work out a situation like this, but the way my house is designed, I don't think I could. I love the fact that your dog can come and go as he wants to.

So last night I am standing in the kitchen with DH, Peanut is down below. In the corner of my eye I see him standing in the corner, I see him look up at me and LIFT HIS LEG!!

I could not believe it :thumbdown He was in trouble! I know you have a problem when your dog looks at you and lifts his leg on the cabinet!!

What the heck!!??!!? :confused: I don't get it! I guess we have to start all over (again) treat him like a little puppy with his potty training!! :mad:
