So frustrated with people How do you all handle people when you go out with your Yorkies? I used to get it all the time in the states and hoped when we got to the UK it would be different but I almost find it worse. Walking my little girl and of course I am proud of her but everywhere I go I get looks like I am some kind of weirdo and comments I hear from people passing by. You know the ones, "is that a dog or a rat" kinda ones. Now being here I also get remarks and questions about where her tail is because she came from the states and has no tail but here they all have tails. I wish she did have her tail but she doesn't. I have a hard time dealing with people anyway so on days when I manage to get out and about in public and want to socialize Rosie I find it really hard dealing with people. Anyone have words of wisdom? lol :aimeeyork |
it can be upsetting I know how you feel. I have one yorkie Olly that looks like a typical yorkie and my other baby Tia which is a 5lb smaller version and when we were out walking in Southsea( don't know if you know it) but someone walked past me and said the one in the pink is a Jack Russel to his little girl! She is the one that gets the 'rat lable'. I love both my babies so they can go stuff themselves lol:) |
Oh, I'm so sorry you have to go through this! People can be so rude! They need to think before they open their mouths. As we have not got our baby yet (Friday), I haven't experienced this yet, but I know when I do (if I do) I will be kind of defensive. I will do my best not to be rude, but if they make fun of my dog, I'll have to say something. Even if that something is how beautiful I think she is and as long as she's MY dog, it doesn't matter what they think. But I'm telling you, if someone catches me on a bad day, I may just let them have it. Those days are few, far, and in between, but I hate it when people make mean comments about something/someone I love. The only good thing it has taught me is to always think before I speak myself. I would never ever say anything mean in public about another persons dog. Not only is it rude, but I wouldn't want to hurt their feelings. I think some people just don't think beforehand. Try to not let it bother you if you can and I hope you can get some good advice here on YT. I know these old pro's can offer much better advice than I can, but I still wanted to reach out to you. I hope things get better! I'm sure your baby is just perfect and you love her just the way she is....and that is all that matters! |

It's human nature for people to be negative with comments. I actually freak people out when they refer to Romeo as a dog (in a derogatory manner). I reply "He's not a dog, he's my son!". |
Aw that would be upsetting. :( They always make comments about Kaos but usually in a more fun matter. He is 4.4 lbs and when I go on a bus, the drivers always ask how "killer" is. :p |
I am not a good person to ask advice on this. Because if they were rude to me then I would probably be rude back. However, with that said, you know that Rosie is beautiful and that is all that matters. When they ask about her tail tell them she is an extra special Yorkie, you know a Yorkie that doesn't have a tail. They are rare and aren't seen very much. ;) Lol. As far as the rat comment, I don't think I would be able to let that go. I am pretty sure I would have to say something. Maybe like "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all." Good luck to you on this. Hopefully, someone can give you ways to be nice about it. You just remember that Rosie is a sweet, loving, adorable furbaby! :) |

Myteddybear, just take your baby, have attitude, remember, your baby is THE most beautiful, and loving. People with mean or stupid comment THEY don't count.:p |
How about, "wow! you must have HUGE rats at your house!" Myteddybear: how about you walk your girl with a USA t shirt on? :) |
I'm sorry. :( I actually can't say I've experienced anything too negative. Luckily, we have mostly positive "feedback" when we go out. Some of course say nothing at all and don't care about him but the ones who give us attention always comment on how cute, this and that or the other.... If someone said something truly negative to me, I'd be really hurt. But I probably take things too personally. :( |

I wish Ahi had her tail too. Oh well...we still love her. :) |
I've never had anyone say anything negative about Belle when we are out. Usually people ask if they can pet her or tell me that she's so cute.... I have had someone comment on my shih tzu, Ollie, and say how "He's so big for a shih tzu". He's 12lbs - how is that big??? I used to let it bother me, but I KNOW my babies are precious and perfect, and have come to realize that some people have nothing better to do than make negative comments and try to bring other people down. Don't let them get to you - your baby is beautiful - and if they can't see that, then they are blind. |
The one that bugs me the most is when other yorkie owners think they are superior to you bc theirs is "way smaller". I feel sorry for those people. They tell me Uni is BIG for a yorkie! She is 5 lbs. Yes she is tall, but no she is not big. One time we had a mini meet up at my old shop. There was a girl in there, and commented, "I like the small one". Which one is the small one? They are all the same size! They vary about a pound or two and an inch or two. They are the same size! |
