Yorkie hair and color questions??? 2 Attachment(s) My male yorkie has short hair on his muzzle and solid black hair on his head. He is 15 weeks old and 2 and a half pounds, the length of the hair on his muzzle is like a chihuahua. The rest of his hair is getting longer except on his lower legs and feet. His mother was black and tan, and his daddy was Black and Gold. He is not starting to look like either one of them. He has a foxy looking face. His hair is not changing except that the gold on his face is darkening and the Black on the top of his head is thick and solid black. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this happen? Can anyone help? |
hmmm...he's cute. Is he registered? Sometimes, the hair on their heads don't start breaking till their a little older and will continue to change up to 2 years of age. |
He is fine, there are 2 types of coats, silk and soft silk. Silk coats are thinner, soft silk is thicker. Show dogs are mainly perfect, from tip of the nose to the tail. Pet quality has flaws, their coats are not perfect, but they are as an animal. That's were you seperate pets from show. |
He is regestered with CKC with a full pedigree background. He is a loving and sweet baby. I was just told by my vet that is was unusual for a oure breed Yorkshire Terrier to have a short haired muzzle. I think I end up with unusual yorkies though, lol. My 7 month old female is 9lbs and a wild and hyper girl. My tiny baby girl yorkie has remained at 2lbs for months now. I am a Yorkie fan. |
Your little guy is cute but I cannot tell about his coat from these pics. His coat could be silk, soft silk, hard silk or wooly. You will hear all sorts of names trying to describe the coat on a young dog or puppy. One tjing is almost always true--if a Yorkie puppy has a thick, soft, wavy coat, it is most likely going to be a wooly coat as adult. A lot of times they stay darker too. those coats do better with a sorta puppy cut so the owner does not have to cut out mats all the time. His parents probably have a softer coat given the fact they are black and tan or gold.. The hair on his muzzle is short and it might not grow much, but I bet he can give great Yorkie kisses..Those things will not matter as long as you are not using him for breeding. They make wonderful pets even if they are naked! LOL |
Short hair around the muzzle is not unusual for a puppy . He will have plenty of time to grow hairs . |
He is still a baby give him time ! lily |
My little puppy have very thin soft silky hair. I read somewhere that it will become thinker when he gets older. (Let me know if this is true. I hope so.) Also the hair on the top of his head, which is thin and sparce has black tips and is otherwise almost white or a light tan down to the roots. It looks like the black is growing out. And, because the hair is so light at the roots, it makes you think you are seeing his scalp. But closer inspection shows that there is hair - it is just very light (not thick) - and almost white - for now. Will this hair thicken and darken???? Actually, my yorkie pup seems to have a multitude of colors around his head and face. I am only hoping it will get thicker. I have a pet and not a show dog, and any color is just fine with me. Thanks for any answers. Carol Jean |
Actually with Romeo my little yorkie boy there is no white showing. There is black all the way down to his pink scalp. I have been looking for color because both of my yorkie girls had the white barely showing by 15 weeks and his hair is still solid black. He is sweet and adorable and I am hoping is hair grows out on his face because he was going to be my very expensive tiny stud. I purchased him as my pet and stud dog to make up for the cost of paying for him. I don't even mind if his color stay's dark because people already want to use him as their stud dog when he is old enough. I just wasn't sure the dark on the head was normal because I have never seen a yorkie as dark as him before. |
