Are Kongs expensive, how do they work? Hi all, I have seen people post about the Kong thing, where do you get them and how do they work? Do you have to show your baby how to use them and do they cost a lot, don't have a job right now so its kind of tough arounf here. Cynthia:o |
No Kongs are not expensive. You can get them at any Kmart or Walmart or pet store. My Bella loves hers. If I am going out and have to leave her in her cage I fill hers with som treats in the bottom then peanut butter. I put it in the freezer so it gets hard. She loves hers. The only thing you have to watch for she will sometimes chew the other end after the peanut butter is gone. |
Small kongs are def. affordable, and if you buy one it'll last forever! Search the forum for "kong recipes" there is a newer thread on that, LOTS of goodies on that thread :D |
We just bought a Kong for puppies at PetSmart and it wasn't expensive at all. I know the Kong website has a few recipes on there too. |
Lola LOVES her mini Kong. We fill it with treats then cover the hole with peanut butter, she goes at it for awhile. keeps her entertained and good for teething too. we got it at Pet value. under 10.00 |
Does it matter what kind of peanut butter is used? |
this is a good one: KONG Stuff'N Peanut Butter Easy Treat Paste - Dog Toys - Toys, Beds & Carriers - PetSmart for kong stuffing |
Thanks. I am always afraid I'm going to give her something that isn't good for her. I will buy that for her.:) |
Sophie loves her kong and kong treats. We got hers at Petco. I think she is addicted to it . We sometimes fill it with her Wellness kibble. She enjoys it no matter what's inside ;). |

Joey never liked his and didn't like the Kong stuffing either. The recipes on YT sound more nutritious than the stuffing in a can. Another thing is it's messy, whatever you put in it gets all over the floor. They sell toys that you can fill with kibble and the dog rolls the toy around and a piece of kibble comes out, something like that could keep a dog busy for hours and not be so messy. |

How do you guys clean the Kong? I was thinking I could use one of those baby bottle brushes to get on the inside and clean it out??? |
A rescue puppy about 3 to 4 months old landed in my lap a couple of weeks ago, so I am now crate training her....she is doing great! I come home at lunchtime and when I put her up for the afternoon she gets a kong filled 1/4 of the way with regular peanut butter; it doesn't make a mess on her or in her crate though she is short haired. I get what I can (which in very little) out of the bottom of the kong with the end of a spoon and I then fill it with hot water and shake it a couple of times and put it in a small container of hot water. Later I come back rinse it and put it in the fridge until the next afternoon. Hope this helps. |
