Puppy Growth Chart Have you found the puppy growth charts to be pretty accurate? One of the "sticky threads" here on the "General Yorkie Discussion Forum" had this link: http://yorkiepassion.com/growthchart.htm According to the growth chart here... if Gus is currently 10 weeks old and weighs 2 lbs. 1 oz, he should be 5 pounds when grown. Do you think this is true? |
i doubt that any of the charts are inaccurate. reason being, that puts my baby at three pounds or less when grown. The other one is where you double the weight at twelve weeks. That puts his about three pounds. Today at age four months, he weighed 2.6 at the vet. The only way he will stay three pounds is if his growth is stunted here and now. I am looking at a BIG yorkie. Then he will be my "teapot" instead of the tiny he was supposed to be. |
Probably We first saw this chart when Wosie was 8 weeks and she is now 5 months, and the chart is holding true so far! I would not doubt that my girl will be between 5-6 pounds fully grown, as her parents were both around that size. |

I was just surprised that the growth chart started so low...if the breed standard is 4 lbs. - 7 lbs, I wasn't sure why he started so low at full grown and ended at only 6 lbs. |
The Growth chart held true to both Abbey & Beamers weight! |
I know the Growth Charts do help,I have seen some that vary. At least it gives people an idea. My pups, I keep a chart on their weight, and these charts were off when I use Yogi & Woody as sires. Their line seems to slow considerably when they reach 2lbs. So all dogs are different, yet gives one a guideline. |
The chart wasnt accurate for either one of my dogs. They are both way bigger than the charts said they would be. I think the parents weight plays a bigger factor. |

ceeby's parents were both tiny. One was about three pounds and the other just under. best I can remember. please no one fuss at me for buying what i thought was a little bitty baby from tinies. |
That is Kimberly...feminvstr's site. The chart is something you can use as a tool but isn't written in stone. According to that chart, Gracie should have been well over 6 lbs but at one year, she weighed 4 1/2 lbs....she was 2.3 lbs at 8 weeks. |
So far it has been correct with both of my yorkies. |
OMG........I tried to follow the chart and unfortunately my puppy's weight wasn't even on the chart. He is almost 12 weeks old and weighs about 4 1/2 pounds already. That means he is going to be a huge little boy. The breeder told me that his mom was 7lbs and dad 6lbs and he should weight about the same. Now when I saw him, my expression must have given it away because she told me not to panic because he would lose his "baby fat" and slim down. But he is built like a s**t brickhouse. Oh boy, I better get prepared that my baby is not going to be carried around in a "purse" as I had wished. |
My pups weigh too much to tell on the chart.. but they aren't huge... I am confused... They are 3 weeks old tomorrow.. 2 weigh 1.9 oz and 1 weighs 1.6 oz. Please Help me... |
What do your pups weigh now? Just wondering if you might have weighed them right after eating which might add a couple of oz. and if they haven't gone pee and poo that might also add an oz. ??? |
