Advice Please!!! I have a problem with Ladybug. She has escaped her doggie play pin, as well as the gate to keep her in the kitchen. She climbs up and over like a pro! Since she has done excellent on the pee pads since the day we brought her home, we let her have the kitchen and the living room while we're at work 8 hours. The bedrooms and bathrooms are off limits to her. The problem is that for the past week when I get home she has pulled at my area rugs and even unraveled one small corner of it. I really don't want to have to take my rugs up because I have nice hardwood floors and kids.:D My house gets very very cold so the rugs are a must for my girls to sit and play on in the colder months. I cannot crate her from 7:45 -3:30 that just seems too cruel for my 13 week old baby. I know there is spray to keep them from biting on furniture, but can it work or is there something that would work so she won't bite at my rugs? I can't correct her if I'm not home to see her do it. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance:) |
Wow, I just went through this... Brutus is kept in my 4 season room while we are at work as I don't want to confine him to a crate all day either. However my pup is 4 months old and chews on everything. I have removed furniture and plants from "his room" until he is done with his chewing phase. In the Big House I have removed all rugs for now. We are able to confine him to the kitchen, family room and a hallway very easily. I had just purchased some pretty spendy rugs (for me) and he would start his "digging" on them. I have purchased a spray called Keep Off and it really works, I have sprayed it on my wood table legs and anything and everything he had started nipping at. |
If you are happy with gating Ladybug in the kitchen, except for the climbing out part, you could try a different style gate. The gates I have for Kiko have a plastic panel in the middle (one is clear, the other frosted looking). They cost more than regular baby gates, but there's nowhere for the pups put their paws to climb over. |

I don't have a problem crating/ gating Yorkies when they are puppies. We can't watch them every minuet. They can eat something, chew through a electric cord or a lot of of other dangerous things. We have a huge crate like Great Dane size. If we need to leave them for a few hours that works. Their own crate and potty pad fits inside the huge crate and they still have room for water bowl and toys. We also have a child's play pen that works. And Hubby made gates out of plastic lattice 8 foot tall sheets (It's the one with the small holes) he bought at Lowes. You can cover a whole door way or cut them in half and make a 4 foot tall gate. |
If your little fur-ball really, really wants to get out of somewhere, then he/she will! ;) Our Harry, who started off as just 'When Harry met Sally' - very, very quickly turned into Harry Houdini. At 4 months old, he 'escaped' from his crate by shoving the bottom plastic tray along gradually, then forcing his way out of the larger corner. He delightedly greeted me at the front door aaargh! :animal36 We overcame that with various clips. And we've never left him for more than 2 hours!! They are so, so clever and innovative - and let's face it, all they want to do is find us!! :) Sally + Harry x |
Lola was climbing over her baby gate about a week after she came home! We fixed this by putting a screen (we had an extra one that had fallen out of one our windows the week before and never got around to putting back) in front of the baby gate so she cannot climb it. It fits perfectly in the doorway, she can still see thru the screen and the baby gate keeps the screen secure. In the three weeks since we started this tactic she hasn't figured out a way around it yet! :D |
