Tazzie needs Liver Shunt Surgery Vet said University of Ohio State was good for tazzies surgery? Does anyone know anyone else that is good. I have seen alot about someone in Tennessee that does them? Does anyone know what its called? |
I sent you a PM. I did not give you the contact infor for UT - Dr. Karen Tobias The University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine PO Box 1071 Knoxville, TN 37901-1071 Tel: (865) 974-8387 Portosystemic Shunts |
Hi, I don't post on here very much and I saw this and thought I would jump in. About 5 years ago, my little yorkie named Grace needed this surgery also. I called the Ohio University and they were very expensive. I ended up taking Grace to the University of Tennessee and Dr Tobias did her surgery. Grace had a more serious issue than a shunt and she just passed away this past July. She was 4.5 years old. She was healthy and happy up until the last week. Every year on Grace's birthday, I would send Dr Tobias an e-mail and a current picture. She would always respond. Grace had no portal vein and little to no liver. For the surgery, gas and motel room, it was still tons cheaper than Ohio State. Why not have surgery by the best for less? If you need any info, just shoot me a PM. Debbie |

Thank you! Dr Tobias said Grace was amazing to have lived so long with such a serious problem. You could look at Grace all day and not know she had such a horrible problem. Her only give away...yellow teeth. Dr Tobias said they only see her problem in 1-2% of the cases. I would not have traded Gracie for a healthy dog. That is Grace in my avatar. Go to UT! You won't be disappointed and it will be money well spent! They are the best! |
When we first found out about Lucy and before her second set of BAT's ~ our vet was recommending OSU as well. I know people that have gone there and are very satisfied. UT is the gold standard, however and could end up being cheaper in the long run. |
I'm so sorry you are facing this but sounds like you have had some really good advice. This doctor everyone is talking about sounds like it would really be worth the time and money. Its always good to have some recomendations and she sounds great to me. Good luck to you and your baby. |
