yep, i agree with the coconut oil! ziggy had dry skin and fur, been using it for a little while and it seems to be workng great. i only use it externally tho |
I have been reading about the Yorkie Splash and Shine shampoo and conditioner and it sounds really good. It's all natural and PH balanced. I would say try it as it should be good for skin and coat. Also there is a supplement called Mirra-Coat that is excellent for restoring skin and coat form inside out. Just be sure if you give any supplement that you know the weight of your puppy before giving it. Your pup needs to go to the vet and be checked out and get some Advantage II for the fleas. Fleas are awful for the skin and coat not to mention that they cause tape worms. Once you are sure the fleas are gone use what ever you vet gives you to get rid of any and all worms he may have. Diet is really important for a healthy coat. Make sure you are feeding a high quality puppy food and not what you find in the grocery store. Best wishes on you little guy. Hope to hear he is doing much better soon. |
Thank you for the tips. I will be sure to put them to great use. It means alot to have so much support. |
Thank you all soooo much. |
The support on here is amazing. |
There are alot of different brands of flea protection for animals. I use frontline or advantix and have never seen a flea on my shih tzu in the six years that I have had her. Maybe you should get your puppy on something like that. I am sure your Vet will recommend a once a month flea prevention and heartworm preventative. Good luck |

With that said, Sprocket has the dry itchy skin and we also use the coconut oil, I buy the little capsules at GNC, break them open, and rub them on his skin, making it a "playtime" thing. I buy the food grade so I don't have to worry about him licking it off. I tried putting it in his food but he's such a pain in the  and wouldn't eat the food, so this was my solution. Because of his skin we use a soap free shampoo the vet recommended, earthbath, got it at petsmart, I think, anyway not real expensive. The flea/tick thing, because your baby is so young, get info from the vet, when the dogs are so little it's hard, besides I don't like the pesticides, but live in an area that has a year around problem.:( My input, hope it helps and congrats on your new puppy, they are so much love. |
