Please Tell Me I Have It All... Hey guys! Ok, I made our final puppy list today. We ordered our crate, xpen, potty pads, and bed the other day. Then today my Mom got us a little carrier for the car as a birthday present for me. She got this one for me: Petmate Kennel Cab Soft-Sided Pet Carrier in Pink at PETCO I think I'm going to have 'Katie Scarlett' monogrammed on it for our Yorkie. Then my Mom also got us a little blanket for her. It's pink and she is having her name monogrammed in black. As you can tell, my Mom is so excited about her new 'grand dog.' LOL. Now, here is the list of things I made to go and pick up this week: -Food (checking with breeder on what kind I need to get) -Food/Water Bowls -Doggie Placemat (non slip, spillproof edges) -Nutrical -Pet Sprayer (for our kitchen sink...we don't have one on our sink and since we rent we cannot install one. So I found one that attaches onto the faucet) -Non Slip Mat for sink -Harness -Leash -Collar -Nature's Miracle -Pet Wipes -Shampoo/Conditioner -Brush/Comb -Detangling Spray -Toothbrush/Toothpaste -a couple of toys (one is a Kong for puppies) -treats We have our vet. I have a bag that I think I will use as a doggie diaper bag, but this will have to wait until those puppy shots are finished. I still want a few more things like a little doggie armoire for her space, but that isn't a necessity right now. I also want clothes/bows, but still not a necessity. With the cost of the puppy (we already put our deposit), the money we've already spent, and the money I need to spend this week...it all adds up pretty quick. But I know it will be all worth it when we bring her home. I just hope I have all the necessities that we need for those first 2 weeks or so. Then I'll start buying a little here and there. So...PLEASE tell me that this is all! I know I need to take plenty of paper towels, extra towels, etc. when we go and get her but that's stuff we have around the house all the time. Sorry to bug you guys with so many questions today, but the BIG DAY is drawing near. She'll be 12 weeks on the 10th of October and I want to be as prepared as I can be. Thanks for putting up with me! I hope in a few years I will be able to contribute more and help newbies with questions. I really appreciate all of your help and input! Have a great weekend! ;) |
That is the exact same carrier i have!! LOL Congrats on the new puppy!!! The only thing I can add to your list is , name tags, clothes and bows!!!:) |
LOL, oh yes....I can hear your excitement in your read. It is so wonderful as the days draw nearer. I'm so excited for you and your mom ;) Looks to me, like you got it covered very well. Love the name you picked for Katie Scarlett:) |
Your post sounds like a very excited mommie of furbaby. You might want to get a couple of flannel baby blankets that you can just toss into the washer. If you are going to pottie train outside you might want to get a hoodie or sweater so you will have it on hand for when the mornings and evenings are cool or incase you have a cold snap. As silly as it might sound. Mina's first full day here she just sat and cried. I picked her up and swaddled her like a baby, she went to sleep right there. She is now 9months old and when she is overtired from playing I still do this and it still works. Worked on my people babies too. Cannt wait to see pics of your new baby. You picked the name of my favorite movie character for her. It lovely! |
You might want to get a dog travel water bottle even if your not taking her places until she has her shots you might need it at the vet, on the trip home and I have found when Callie was sick not feeling well or just not drinking I could get her to drink out of the travel one. Cant wait until the 10th so we can see lots of cute pictures :D |
Congradulations on your new baby. I know you must be so excited. The only thing I would suggest is a harness instead of the collar. Enjoy, a new puppy is work but so much fun. BTW, love her name too. |
I love how prepared you are! So exciting! Looks like you have everything covered. Make sure you post plenty of pictures! |

I am sooooo happy for you!! |
One thing that was a life saver for 3 of my dogs that I didn't see on the list is bitter apple spray for things that she might want to chew on. My MIL also used it when her puppy wanted to chew on her area rugs and one taste of that and he never did it again. Puppies like to chew and as much as you try to keep things out of puppies reach and to watch them like a hawk, they will find something. Chip once chewed a hole in the vinyl bathroom floor. I would also suggest taking the collar off the list. Only a harness should be used with a yorkie's fragile trachea. Someone else mentioned name tags. I would suggest a small variety of toys until you figure out which kind she likes the best - squeaky plush toys, kongs, balls, etc. One thing I thought was fun while having puppies was training - you could get a trick training book and start teaching her things on your own! Congrats on the new puppy. You do sound very excited and prepared. You'll be a great new mommy! |
I am sooooooo excited for you! The next thing you need to do is take LOTS of pics so we can see your sweet baby!!!!!!!!! :) |
Awesome! Thank you all so much! I will add a few blankets, travel water bottle, and bitter apple spray to my list. I think I will nix the collar too. I read where you do need to use a harness whenever walking and have that picked out. So I assume you can attach their identifcation onto that when you are out and about? I know I read where some Yorkies (puppies) hate anything around their neck, so I think I'll wait on that. I'll be sure to share lots of pix. Am hoping to do video too if I can figure that one out. Again, thank you all so much! You all rock!!!!!! |
