Queston I am very new to this foum and I am abs sure this question has alreadyb been addressed probably a million times before but I cant find it so here it goes.. I got my baby brody at 12 weeks he weighed abt 3.5 lbs at 15 weeeks he weighed 3.9 he is just adorable... I personally did not want a tiny tiny puppy because I was afraid it would get stepped on by the men in my house... However I am reading on different pages that my puppy may not be a true yorkie.... I am confused... I have papers so I just need some help on this please... I did the chart thing he could weigh 13 lbs or so at adult... his parents are both 7 lbs or so... Please help this newby out...:animal-pa |
What makes you think yours is not a true yorkie? Lots of yorkies are that big in size, or is there something else that makes you think its not pure? |
So he is a going to be a teapot. Yorkies originally were much bigger than they are today. Cozy is a teapot but all of her kids are within standard. The owner of the stud I used for Cozy could not understand how Cozy's puppies all stayed small and her 5 pound female's puppies all ended up as teapot. Same male for both litters. Cozy should have been 8 pounds on the growth charts but she ended up being 10.5. Roxy and Zoey should have been 6 and 7 pounds per charts but they aren't. Roxy is 3.5-4 pounds and Zoey is between 4.5 and 5 pounds. Lucy should have been 16 pounds but for the most part she weights between 7 and 8 pounds. My golden per charts should have weighted 80 pounds but he weighted 120 from 2 years old til his passing at 13. He was a big boy. Head was hip level on me. I'm 5'3" My dogs have never ended up being what the growth chart said they should be. If you have papers on your pup don't worry esp. Since you said you don't want a tiny puppy. There are many members with papered teapots that are close to 20 pounds. Enjoy your pup. Good news if your baby is over sized more to love and less you have to worry about injury if stepped on by the men of your household. |
What kind of "papers" do you have... are they registration papers if so, what are they... UKC, AKC, CanadianKC, ContinentalKC. Also, great advice in the first comments as far as yorkies original sizes were bigger. You puppy could have what's called a "throwback" gene. It's just a gene from your pups ancestors :D Happens in Pomeranians a lot too as they used to be bigger as well. I had a purbred pom that weighed in at 12lbs. Lots of teapots here! |
Thank u everyone ... I love my brody.. anyway.. I dnt care how much he weighs.. I had just read where ppl had written articles saying if the oils are over 7 lbs. Then they were not really a yorkie .... Thanks.... |
