Leave it alone!!! That would be terrible for an adult dog. I don't even really like seeing it done on young pups but at least it's done and over with quickly with them. Natural tails are awesome anyways! But maybe I am biased. ;) Jackson gets sooo many compliments on his tail. |

its against the law to dock in the uk and rightly so. Noone has the right to go around chopping bits off animals just for convienance:eek: |
Chances are if you dock it the "nub" with not grow fur on the very tip because her bones/formations are all mature now. My foster Izzy got hers docked at 6 months old when she got spayed and her hair did not grow back where the vet cut it. It's just a calloused scar. For yorkies, I LOVE their tails long. Edit: Izzy is a pitbull and her nub is a lot bigger than your 2.3lb dog's lol so might not be as noticable. But i still say leave it. Izzy got hers done because her tail was like a 10lb hammer thumping on the walls, beds, car, ground etc all day every day and she ended up hurting it. |

DON'T do it. If I had known I was going to keep Zoey, Roxy, and Lucy I would not have had their tails docked. In Cozy's 2nd litter she had a tiny male with a cleft plate much smaller/ probably a premmie. I left his tail intact and was planning to keep him as a pet from the start. UnfortunTely he did not make it. Vet said it was a fluke but I spayed Cozy anyway. Don't harm your baby now for fashion. |
I'm so glad I read this because I've been getting lots of people telling me I should get my 12 week old's tail docked. I hadn't gave it too much thought because I think she's fine the way she looks with a tail. I did consider it when I first got her because I had never seen a yorkie with a full tail before, but I didn't know there was a window of time in wich to have it done. There was even a referral given to me of a "vet" who would do it for $100. I now have some great information to share if someone asks me again about docking Ladybug's tail. Thanks everyone |
I agree with everyone else. While I love the look of the docked tail...that is all it would be for...the looks. I wouldn't put my dog through this at this point. I would just love him as is!:) |

I can't believe any vet would amputate a dogs tail, it is an amputation at 1 year old. If not done at a few days old, its too late. |

The dog I had before Gracie was a Shih Tzu and he had a beautiful plume of a tail that always showed his mood and emotions. It was like another form of communication with him. When I got Gracie I was aware of the docked tail and I didn't think anything of it until I saw that little tiny tail just a wagging away hardly noticed. She is such a happy loving little girl that her tail wags almost constantly but you just don't see it as much as a dog with a regular tail. When I see that little tail going 100 miles per hour I sometimes wish she had a full tail so everyone could see her excitement and the sheer joy she has when she greets people. Docking is outlawed in the UK and other European countries. Maybe it should be considered here as well. Any vet who would cut an adult dog's tail off for any amount of money should be disbarred! |
