Is that hair dark colored around his mouth? Or is that his skin/lips? The pic reminds me soo much of a puppy i seen before with something, but i dont want to freak you out, so Im just asking if it is swollen? puffy?

In the second pics it also looks like his eyes may be a little puffy?like it looks a little funny around them? Are they?

If your only concern is the dark circle of hair around the nose/mouth, my uneducated opinion is not to worry. One of my girls has a dark "beard"... she's all yorkie and her adult coloring is beautiful (I am a little prejudice ;))

Of all the yorkies on this forum, you'd have a hard time finding two that look exactly alike (or maybe I haven't looked through enough photos yet :D)

On his CKC papers it says he's pure yorkie.

Forgive my pics. I was trying to take them with my phone and my little booger would NOT stay still! The one with the orange around him is a pic she sent me and thats what he looked like last week.
The circle of short hair and dark coloring around the mouth and nose looks to be what some breeders call a "mouse face". The hair is much shorter and looks to be darker around the nose. This gives the puppy a mousey appearance. I have seen it in both show and pet lines. It will eventually grow out.

Thank you all so much! it is his hair thats dark.

I had taken him to the vet last Friday and he said he was competely healthy and yorkie.

I'm sorry I hadn't been back on!

I think I've decided to name him Bam Bam, short for Alabama. lol

Aw maci has that color of hair around her muzzle, but she is far from mouse faced lol. You'll just have to wait til he's older! They change so much, Maci is 2.5 and I still think she is changing haha.

LOL.. Bam Bam makes me think of the flinstones kid. And I LOVE it!!! Adorable name for your cutie! :D

He sure is adorable! He looks purebred yorkie to me, but you could wait until he's older and then DNA test him if you are still concerned?

I have been a veterinary tech for about 13 years, and i have seen strangles a few times, and one little shih tzu puppy looked just like this when it started. Which was why i didnt want to say what it is, because in a picture you cannot tell if thats hair around the front of his mouth or skin. Sorry i shouldnt have said anything at all.

I named my sister-in-laws shorkie 'Pebbles' a couple years ago. lol
