A little upset Well today my two went to the vet Riley for a dental and Lily to be spayed. I get a call around noon to say the dental went great no teeth pulled just plak cleaned :). And then he said he did not spay as his computer that he gets the blood work from was not working. And by the time they got it figured out it was to late in the day to spay. This decision has taken me sometime to decide on doing. So now they can not get her in for two weeks.:(. I figured by the end of the day I would be done worrying and feel good about my decision. Now I am second guessing if I should or not. I did reschedule for the 11th. I am so bummed I have to think about this for another two weeks :( |
I'm glad the dental went well! With regards to the spay, did they call you you let you know the computer was down? Or did they simply just tell you when you came to pick up from the dental? |
i would be upset too. i think they should do the bloodwork at a seperate appointment instead of waiting till the day of surgery. i have an appointment booked for my Chihuahua to get spayed and i will make sure the bloodwork gets done a day or two before the surgery. |
Glad the dental went well. I'm sorry they couldnt do the spay today but I think you should definitely go ahead for it in two weeks. |

I asked about doing bloodwork ahead of time and they said no we can do it the day of. They called at noon to tell me they had not done it. Could not pick up till after 3:30 for the dental. So Lily just went to spend the day in a cage :( |
That was really poor IMO. I am so sorry. I would be annoyed too if I were you. It is good to hear how well the dental went, though. No extractions - YAY!! |
Ok, personally for me....I would not be upset that they didn't do the spay today without the proper bloodwork in order. I would count it as a blessing and would have the outmost confidence in my vet...he/she was watching out for the well fare of my girl, instead of moving forward without the bloodwork. I too, am glad all went well with the dental. I am sorry you have to dwell on it for 2 more weeks, but know in your heart you are doing the best thing for your girl. In this world of technology we all know these things happen and your vet considered her well being first. The part I don't agee with is not calling you to come and pick her up due to the delay. |
I am so sorry Lily didn't get her spay today:( I know how upset you must be. Now another 2 weeks of worry. Glad the dental went good though. |

I agree about the blood work being done first its a good thing But i asked last week if I should bring her in to do it before the procedure. That is why I am a little upset. Machines break and problems come up. I almost had my daughter go and pick her up but left her so Riley would not be alone. I am sure having her there helped him relax. We will do it again in two weeks he did not want me to come in earlier for blood work so it better work this time. |
Glad that all went well with the Dental. Sorry about the blood work mix up. I always have the blood work about 3 day's before anything is done. That's the way my Vet does it, so if something isn't right they don't have to sit at the Vet. But do know that you are doing what is right to have Lily spayed. |
I am glad the dental went fine. I know you would not want them to do surgery on Lily with out the proper tests and results. You are just upset that it is not over and done with. But you know what, sometimes things are a blessing in disguises. Maybe today was not the right day for her to have her spay. You take the best care of your Yorkies. So try not to worry, ( I know you will anyway, I am like that too.) It will work out and be ok. |

I'm glad the dental went well though, don't worry after the 11th you'll get it all taken care of, and your little girl will be fine. It's really hard having to leave them there... hang in there, it'll all be resolved soon. I know how it feels to be pissed off and frustrated with vets, I'm having my own vet issues. |
My vet does the bloodwork the morning of too. I think it would be much better to do it a couple days before. I know the reason is probably because they have to fast, but still, that would be ok too. Maybe you could firmly suggest you want the bloodwork atleast the day before because you don't want a repeat of the last time. If they go for it, just remember to fast your girl. |
I would be upset too...bc it takes me a whole lot to work up to leaving my kiddos at the vet for a day, let alone for surgery...only to have it delayed. It's really good that you elected to do the pre-work, and good that your vet waited for results...but still, UGH! You were ready to deal w/ a surgery only to have to delay. What a pain. |
I am gald the dental went well. And I think it is a very good idea to have the bllodwork come back first before a spay. It is hard to have to go through all this again , but know that your baby will be ok is worth the wait. It would be really bad if they went ahead and spayed her without the results. |
What's to think about? You are being a responsible pet owner and not contributing to the overpopulation of more Yorkies... I'd reschedule and never think twice about it;) |
How did they get the bloodwork for the dog getting the dental? |

Is this your normal vet? Maybe you would feel better if you asked them these whys? I am afraid I would be upset about leaving my baby there all day. But then again, I would be very glad that they didn't do it without the blood work. I would be upset that the blood work was not done before the dental if I was told it would be. With that said, I am sorry you have to worry for two more weeks. But getting her spay done is the right thing to do. Hopefully, the two weeks will fly by, her spay will be done and over with, and everything will go back to normal. Glad to hear Riley is doing well!! |
I always have the labs done a day or two before procedures. Another reason for doing this is it is cheaper!! If my vet does them in house it is much higher than sending them out. |

Could someone who knows about medical norms please comment. When my doggies have dentals my Vet always does labs about 3 days before. I know unless it was an Emergency surgery she (my Vet) would do tests before putting them under anesthesia. Thank You |

Yes this is a vet I have used for years. My daughter actually worked for him for like three years. Love the work he usually does. And he is very good and careful with surgeries. Of course I live in a small town and if it was any serious issues I would have to go somewhere else. They do not have all the fancy equipment. I do not understand why he did not do blood work on Riley. But thank goodness he is fine and back to himself this morning. Lily will hopefully be spayed on the 11th. Unless she comes into heat early. Thank you all so much for understanding my frustration. |
I would think, since it was there fault the surgery is delayed, that they could have tweaked their schedule to be more accommodating......two weeks wait, is unacceptable! |
Yes I asked to do it next week and he has class so he is out of the office. They have to take so many classes a year to keep up on things. Which is good. But bad for me. I did take Lexi to a different clinic to be spayed as she was older and he did not feel comfortable doing her. Was not really impressed by the other vet she actually caught a virus while there and had to have more medicine. Not blaming them but would like my vet to do the surgery. I will just pray we do not have a early heat cycle... |
The reason I would be irritated is that she should have only been put to sleep ONCE to have both things done. Now she will have to be sedated twice and you also will most likely pay for it twice. |
