Leg-cocking - while having a poop?!!? Good afternoon everyone! Ok, so Harry's a big healthy 11 month old baby boy. He started cocking his leg about 6 months ago to do wee-wee's. He made the odd un-balanced mistake when he cocked too high and spun over backwards, and sometimes puts his leg down before he's quite finished! :umbrella: For some reason, he has now started cocking his leg when he's doing a poop! His back right leg, just an inch or two off the ground! Is this at all normal? It looks really awkward and uncomfortable and then he goes completely back to normal - it looks like he's about to play leapfrog but that bit never happens!! Do any of your babies cock their legs like this?!!? :) Sally + Harry x |
LOL, the visual is funny. Yes, occasionally Teddy does a move that looks like that thing male gymnasts do with hands on the floor or bar, and legs stretched outward, slightly forward. |

Awe that's too cute. Geno has started to lift his leg a smidge when he pees but he usually just squats. I wouldn't be too worried. If you go to the dog park, you see all kinds of doggies going to the bathroom in weird ways haha :animal-pa |
Ozzy did that a few times, but haven't seen that for a while (he's 6 months). At least you can have a bit of a chuckle before you have to pick it up :p |
Yes, dogs find lots of creative ways to do their business. We have a JRT mix who also lifts his leg to poo sometimes. Our male yorkie mix approaches his target, sniffs, gets into position next to the target, and then lifts the OPPOSITE leg and tinkles. Our current male yorkie still squats to pee, even though he's over 2 years old now. We also had a female Yorkie who did a little handstand when she tinkled. I think she was trying to reach higher so she could mark over places that bigger dogs had marked. Now that I write this down, seems that all of our dogs do something strange. But I guess it goes to show that they don't learn these funny habits from each other. |
Jax sometimes lifts a leg when he poops too! And sometimes while peeing he lifts it too high and almost falls over. We always laugh at him when he does it. |
Three of my girls cock their legs in the air when they pee. They were raised by a male golden retriever. When Zoey poops she lifts both of her back legs up and forward over her front legs like a gymnast. Very funny to watch. Lucy is the only one who does your typical female squat. |
Haha Uni lifts her leg when she pees, but not as much as a boy. It's like she doesn't want it to run onto her hair. But it still does sometimes. The visual of the leg lifting poop is hilarious though. |
My very first Yorkie was a male (Spencer) and he always raised his leg when he pooped. |

Sadie squats and lifts. Shes a lefty. Always her left leg. My granddog is the same way and the two rarley see each other so I'm not sure it's a learned habit. |
My Sassy lifts her leg and walks while she poops, and pees real fast and runs. Tessie poops and runs and hides. My boys just poop and pee anyway and everywhere about 10 times if we are outside. They love to show off for the girls and lift those legs. |
