Tips and advise for post spay surgery Hi all, I just wanted to ask everyone if they have any tips and advise for me. I just took my Kassidy to get spayed this morning. I'm just a bit concerned because I havent seen her this quiet since we brought her home. The vet told us not to feed her anything until tomorrow morning. We can give her a little bit of ice cubes. The vet gave us pain medication in liquid form to give orally through a syringe. Other than that, I wouldnt know what to do to comfort her at this time. So any advise would be super. Thanks |
Just hold her and love her. If she perks up tomarrow and starts messing with the stitches,put a baby onesie on her so she cannt reach them. You might feed her boiled chic and rice instead of her usual kibble. Mina was bouncing off of the walls and I had to hold her to keep her still and quiet. Each baby is different,some need to be held and loved. Hope she feels alot better tomarrow. |
Aww thanks for the quick reply, we got an E-collar on her right now so hopefully the stitches would not be a problem. They actually glued her incision together, I dont know if that is better than regular stitches or what not. Thanks for the chic/rice suggestion, my GF was telling me about that. Will try first thing in the morning, she hasnt eaten since 6PM yesterday! yikes |
Glue is alot better than stitches. Mina only weighed 4.5 lbs when she was spayed,a NB onesie fit on her. If the pain med is medacam it can upset her tummy. It doesn't effect all babies that way. Mina has no tolerance for it. Good thing she didnt hurt afterwards. Others may have some suggestions as well. |
Well just an update, Kassidy is doing very good after the surgery. The first day was hard for me since I've never seen her without any energy, but as soon as morning started she was moving and was very hungry! The bland diet of chicken and rice works wonders! Now its just kinda funny seeing her walk around the house hitting certain things with her e-collar. =D |
Ziva didn't bother her surgery at all, she also had a glued incision. It healed so well you cannot find it at all. The pain meds were terrible for her, once we stopped those she was back to normal. |
I never had to use a collar on Gracie. Of course I was with her all the time after the surgery. She licked the incision a few times but nothing that would disturb it. It's just natural for a dog to lick a painful area. Too much licking could be a problem but she was good about it. I would let her lick a couple of times and then say no and she would stop. That first day is hard because they still have the medication from the surgery in them. I think that is good because they sleep through the worst part. I'm sure your little girl will have even more energy tomorrow. |
Yea, she's running around everywhere again. I noticed the incision area is really dry, hopefully it's healing just fine, it looks good though. It doesn't even look like she was cut around that area which is good. Her stomach is just bald lol. |
