Sleepless in Ontario! I am new to this site. I enjoy reading and looking at all the pictures posted. I have a new addition to our family - 8 week old Allie. Allie is adorable, fun loving, adjusting well to our home - however, when will she sleep through the night? I try to keep her awake as long as possible before bed - then 10:30 pm is lights out. She goes to sleep well - she is in her kennel - however, waking up several times a night. I hate to hear her cry and don't want to spoil her (too much!). Any ideas? How long does this normally last? Thanks, Laura |
I got Hayley at 7 weeks and she has always slept thru the nite, I have been very fortunate with this no doubt. I am sure someone will posts some infor on this. There are so much info on here and so many knowledgable people, good luck |
I got Cali at nine weeks and she slept in a playpen next to my bed! Same problem she would get up in the middle of the night so I would put her in my bed but she would wake up again for the day at 4:30 5:00. Now that she is 5 months old I put her in my bed all night starting about 10 days ago and she sleep all night or if she has to go she goes down by herself on stairs by the bed and goes to her wee wee pad. So it does get better! She now sleeps until 7:00 most days and wakes me up with a little kiss and runs down to use her wee wee pad. Hang in there! |
I got Tigger at 10 weeks and he would wake up once at night at four am to be let out to go potty. if she whines take her to her pad or wherever you would like her to go potty, and then put her back in her kennel. if she holds her urine too long, I've heard it can cause bladder problems. A puppy that young can only hold their bladder for 15 minutes. that amount of time of course increases as they get older, but until about two months it stays pretty much the same. Tigger finally slept thru the night at two to three months. What I'd suggest doing is taking her kennel in with you and putting your hand on top of it till she settles down for the night. also You may want to try putting something with your scent in there with her, like a old tee shirt or sweater. Best of Luck and don't worry it'll get better soon. HAPPY THANKSGIVING. |
I should also mention that Tigger has slept with us since Day 1. The very first night, he woke up at 4:30 am and we were like "What the H@@@!!! I hope this doesn't happen very often." Whenever he woke up or would move we'd pick him up carry him outside and we would say "Outside Potty." If we were at work and came home to find that he went potty while we were gone we'd show him what he did(did Not rub his nose it , just showed him it from a short distance) and said "bad dog, Potty on the pad" because we weren't home to see him actually preform the mess. If you're home I recommend you start training him to go Potty outdoors. Tigger at two months started sleeping with us with out waking up through out the night. Originally, we put his bed between our pillows and put an industrial size paper clip on our headboard and clipped a leash underneath it and leashed him so that he could only reach the end of his bed. When he slept through out the night, we stopped using it. He had a few accidents but thats too be expected but now he's a perfect angel. Best of LUck. also, we placed his potty pads next to the door, that way he associated Potty with door. He now whines at the door to let us know when he needs to be let out. |
