Okay I made my decision I have really been going back and forth about spaying Lily. I know this forum is very much about spay and neuter. And as I also believe in it. But as many of you know I have had puppies before with Lexi. And always a very good experience. Maybe just luck but I loved it so much right down to finding the pups forever homes. I have been very lucky and all the puppies found wonderful homes. I have made new friends and would welcome any of my puppies back in my home at anytime. I have read so many sad stories on this forum about losing puppies and mom dogs. That would be so hard to handle. So because of all the knowledge I have learned from this site. I have scheduled Lily to be spade next wednsday. And have decided if and when I am looking for another I will rescue from a puppymill or maybe even foster. I will so miss having puppies but will put that energy into helping in other ways. Thanks for listening I just needed to share. |
I will be thinking of you and Lily next week. I think it's a great idea to rescue a puppy mill pup or foster. Valerie:) |
I will keep you and little Lily in my t's and p's! Hope everything goes well! |
Glad you made that decision. I've visited pounds before and I know the reality of what's going on. Beautiful healthy dogs are being PTS just because there aren't enough homes. Yorkies can usually be placed, but with the economy the way it is, many people have found they are over extended and can't care for all their dogs, and I know some people already have taken in more dogs than they really wanted. The only breeding that should be done is to preserve the breed, so only the best of the best should be bred. |
Im proud of you for coming to that decision. You are doing whats best for Lily. I do understand how you feel about raising pups though. My cat had kittens a yr ago and it was wonderful having babies. I had her and all the babies spayed though and now I just enjoy them as wonderful pets |
I think a rescue would be so lucky to get you as their mom and to have your home as their forever home! That is so wonderful you are going to open your home to one! I will keep Lily in my prayers for her spaying. Please let us know what day she is going. |
That's wonderful to hear:thumbup: You are putting your girls welfare before all else...be proud! Sending positive thoughts for next. |
Congratulations on a difficult decision. I will also be thinking of both you and Lily during her surgery. If you have a yearning for puppies, you should see if there is an organization near you that fosters puppies for service dogs. You may not be able to foster a yorkie puppy, but I know near me the Canadian Dog Guides are always looking for good fosters for service puppies first year. Many of the dogs are larger for example labs and retrievers, but there are also smaller poodles being bred to be service dogs. And I know here as well, you can often foster whelping moms and their litters for rescue organizations. They would probably love to have your help, seeing as you have already had some breeding experience. Lots of ways to get a "puppy fix" ! |
Congrats on your decision. :) I have also made that decision based on what is right for Ahi and for me. I would never be able to forgive myself if something happened to her for reasons I could have prevented. I'm glad you at least got to experience it once with Lexi. Hugs to you and Lily on spay day. |
