My Yorkie being aggressive with my Maltesse I have a female 2 1/2 year old Yorkie and a 2 1/2 year old maltesse. We purchased our yorkie when she was a puppy and we got out maltesse about one year ago. They have been best of friends up until now. I don't know exactly what happend but a couple of weeks ago I heard my Maltesse making this horrible sound and when I got to her my yorkie was on top of her. It was horrible. I had to take my Maltesse to the emergency vet with a broken leg and two bite marks. One on her leg above the break and one up by her neck. I don't know if my yorkie broke her leg or she jumped off the chair and broke her leg then my yorkie attacked her. My yorkie is the sweetest dog she has never been like this before and I am lost. I don't know what to do :( |
Are they both females and unspayed? Unspayed females will fight and sometimes even spayed ones will. Your going to have to keep them separated at all times if you want to keep them both because that was a serious injury the yorkie inflicted and it can never be trusted with the other dog |
I think it is highly likely that the maltese jumped or fell and broke her leg, and the scream from the pain is what caused the yorkie to attack. I say this with some small degree of certainty, because it is VERY hard for one dog to break the leg of another even with little dogs. The only time I have ever known two dogs of similar size to break the leg of another is when a friends two pits decided they hated each other. Frankly, little dogs just (IMO) can't bite that hard. While it is certainly possible, I really don't think it's likely. I'm sorry your Maltie was hurt, and I hope she heals fast, and that her injury doesn't trigger any problems between the two of them. |
When you say horrible noise~do you mean the sound of a dog fight? Did you also hear the Yorkie attacking that Maltese? Dog fights should be immediately addressed. Mine have has an occasional spat but they immediately stop when with a firm "enough!" from me. Was this the first time the Maltese was attacked? If not how often is this happening and have you see the fights start? Are they both spayed? |
