Hi from Derbyshire, England Hi, I've just found this site whilst searching for some information about Yorkies. I've recently adopted an elderly (we think she is about 10yrs) Yorkie girl, after she ran in front of my car and nearly got hit. After stopping to get her off the road I took her home, and to cut a long story short, she went to the police and dog pound, but her owner decided they didn't want to pay the release fee so she came to live with us.:) She's had a lot of problems - she was very thin and matted when we got her, and had teeth sticking out of her mouth. She has had to have all her teeth removed by the vet as they were all rotten, and then she had to have an emergency spay due to pyometra, so she's been an expensive girl so far! To be perfectly honest I have never been a Yorkie fan, I'm a big dog person really, but now I have got her, she has completely won us all over. My husband and son didn't want a little dog, but now they cuddle her on the couch and my son takes her to bed with him  As I have absolutely no knowledge of Yorkies I'm hoping that a few of you could perhaps keep me on the straight and narrow  and I'm sure this site will be very useful. Sorry this has turned into a bit of an essay  Dawn |
Welcome to YT. You've come to the right place - we are a bunch of yorkie obsessed people with a whole bunch of collective knowledge on all things Yorkie! Bless your heart for taking this little girl in and already being a better owner to her than her former one. And, I'm not surprised she has won your heart already :) |
Hi & welcome to the site. Like you I found this site after I adopted my little boy. I had lost my big dog 1-1/2 years before he came into my life. I was so heartbroken after losing my chow/akita mix after 11 years of love that I did not want another dog. I said I was going to wait til I retired and then get a lap dog. Next thing I knew I had adopted my Yorkie. He is now the love of my life. Still have a ways to go before retirement LOL. Bless you and your family for helping this little girl to have a better life. You will find all you need to know here. I know that I have. |

Welcome to YorkieTalk! You are a kind and caring person to take in this little girl and love her and give her a good home and the medical attention she desperately needed. God bless you |
What a wonderful story. Your new (but grown) baby is very lucky to run in front of your car. It sounds like she finally has a loving home and will have a great life. Yorkies are full of personality and very loyal. The love you give her will be returned threefold. Welcome to Yorkie talk and I look forward to seeing a pic of your new baby. |
A happy ending to a near tragic story!! It must have been fate that she ran in front of your car....sounds like she needed you!! Bless you for your caring and giving her a wonderful home! |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! It is so awesome of your to rescue and keep her! Yorkies really do have a way to win people over :) |
Hello and Welcome to YorkieTalk! Bless you for taking her in and sounds like she is going to have a wonderful rest of her life. :) |
What a wonderful thing you have done for the little dog you found. Imagine the years of suffering she must have endured before she came to live with you. I'm sure she must appreciate the love and care you and your family are giving her. Terriers can have a bit of a different personality type than some dogs but they are super smart and loyal dogs. If you look around this forum you will find lots of information about the care and training of Yorkies. I wonder if your girl was used for breeding since she was not spayed when she came to you? You certainly saved her life since she would have died a horrible painful death from the uterine infection she had. If you have any questions I'm sure there will be someone to offer advise. Best wished to you and your new family member. |
Welcome to YT from a fellow UK-er!! Brilliant story, thank goodness it was you she found! Poor little girl, all she's been through. Now she can have a wonderful time (and so can your family!!) Sally + Harry x |
