Chinchillas are the most docile pet, we wiped them out in the wild using them for fur... http://www.google.com/search?q=chinc...2&ved=0CC8QsAQ |

I see it on my facebook page hope people boycott them. |
Boycotting could help the animals in their care. They need a HUGE wake-up call and new policies. Supposedly, the employees wanted to take the animals home but it was against company policy and they could not. It makes me very sad - animals are just another commodity for them to sell. It's not really a big decision for me - the two pet stores closest to me are Pet Smart and a small, designer store. Neither have animals to sell. I'm glad. |
The manager should face charges! |
While the manager claims to have been 'following policy' he/she had a huge opportunity to develop goodwill in the community by doing the right thing and evacuating the animals. After, IF he/she was to face a reprimand for not following policy it would create an uproar in the media and Petco would back down FOR SURE! This way there is an uproar in the media/community and the animals lives have been lost. That's too little too late IMHO. Shame on Petco and the manager for not taking the extenuating circumstances into account. |
Petco Boycott Poll - have you Voted ? It seems like Petco has a Dog Forum ! And, someone  has started a Poll there, asking people if they have or will Boycott Petco for their Inhumane Actions. Seemed like the right thing to do  You might like to give you opinion on that, at... http://community.petco.com/discussions/Dog_Discussion_Forum/fd03p00v01d1?CoreCat=MM_DogSupplies_Community&redi rCnt=1&nav=messages |
I don't understand how you could work there and not have thought to go rescue the animals. I personally wouldn't have cared if I lost my job. I'd be breaking in to save them. :( I <3 Chinchillas. Such a cool little pet. |
i voted and forwarded to family and friends |
Ours carries all types of animals. They always have cats there up for adoption and many others like, ferrets, hamsters, chinchilas, etc. I can't even imagine those poor animals suffering, scared, and alone...makes me cry! |

Thank you for the info I just went online and posted my anger. |
Lil Sis, HA, I just knew you'd be one of the first ones over there :D cheryl, I could have created the Poll here, but... I wanted to shove it in their face TOTALLY ! |
Ugh, I grew up in Binghamton and my parents still live there, and this has caused quite a stir in the community, as it should. Residents had plenty of time to evacuate - this isn't the first time the area has been affected by flooding, so Petco should have had a plan in place. I wonder how long this Petco location will survive considering how angry people are - it is fairly new anyway, and Petsmart has been in the area for much longer. Disgusting. |
As many of you can tell by now, I'm not just disgusted Whit this, I'm outraged ! I worked in Health Care for over thirty years, and I know how difficult it is, to make that call, to tell an employee, to step away from his family and home, and fulfill a responsibility to and for others. But, let's look a little deeper into this... Here's an expert from an article I read concerning their actions which was written by Marcie Whichard, a Petco V.P... "On Thursday morning, employees arrived to work and were "shocked at the enormity of the situation," Whichard wrote. "They immediately tried to enter the building to evacuate the animals but were turned away by the authorities due to concerns for human safety," she wrote. "At the time, the city was focused on rescuing people from their homes by boat and could not divert resources to our store until Friday." Full Article at... PETCO discovery: Close to 100 animals lost in flood | Press & Sun-Bulletin | pressconnects.com SO... just who knew it was dangerous (if it even was) ? What "Authorities" ? Police, Fire, Health ? Just who made that decision to keep "someone" from at least checking ? And, just what qualified them to be in that "dangerous" area, and not someone else. I'm not sure just how dangerous it is, for someone to walk through water with Waders on. and not someone else. So, what I'm reading in this, is that not ONE single Agency was willing to allow JUST ONE of their personnel, to respond. As I said in a previous post, kick the door in, and just simply sit the cages up on a counter. Now how dangerous would it be to walk through FOUR FEET of water ? I just made a Post on the PetCo Website, maybe you'd like to as well, at.. Johnson City Update from Petco CEO, Jim Myers | The PETCO Scoop Blog PS: My Post was number 1272 by the way. |
This has made the national media so IM sure Petco has made some changes because of the bad publicity. I didnt like it because I go in there to buy a fish and I get the 3rd degree of scrutiny then they do this. I wont shop there anymore anyway unless I really have to. I buy alot of pet supplies so its their loss |
