We are in love with our Yorkie - BUT The family have been mad about Yorkies for years, and after a six year break, our last yorkie past away, we decided to buy another Yorkie, and my daughter bought the brother, we bought the female. The female, Misty weighs in at 6 pounds and is only 4 months old, yet Scottie, the boy is the same age but is 3 pounds. We spoke to the vet, and they said that it, could be a crossed breed, as we wanted a Yorkie, as it is good with people that suffer Asthma, the vet could not tell us if that was true, the breeder has told us it bred from a Yorkie. What we dont understand is why there is a difference in weight, and how can you tell if the dog is a Yorkie or not. Misty is spoilt rotten and is well looked after and is part of the family, but we cannot understand the difference in weight.:aimeeyork:confused: |
My brother weighs 60 lbs more than me and has darker skin. It depends on which genes you get. |
Rosie weighs 5 1/2 lb right now. Her brother, they were the only two in the litter, weighs 2 1/2 lb. He is so tiny they call him Ears. His ears look as big as him. :p Lol. Anyway, I just think it is like we are. Each one has its own look, color, weight, etc. |
I agree. All siblings are different. Even my husband, who is an identical twin, has differences from his brother. My little guy weighed in at 1.25 pounds when I brought him home at 12 weeks and his sister already weighed over 2 pounds. It was just the two of them in the litter as well. Some yorkies are just "big boned." :p |
Yorkies from the same litter can very widely in adult size. Piper and Leo have had puppies that ranged from 4.5 lbs to 7 1/2 lbs at adulthood. |

Your yorkie's brother could still end up being much bigger than her. You just never know. |
There are bigger yorkies. My Callie is 16 pounds and a yorkie. |

Welcome, I have 4 Yorkies, 3 have the same parents, (full yorkies) but different litters, They weigh 16 lbs, 10 lbs and 6 lbs. Vet said it could be from genes from different generations. But I love them all. The 4th yorkie weighs 12 lbs. |
My Pixie is a bigger girl, up till recently she was 10 1/2 pounds, her sister and litter mate is a tiny little thing weighing 4 pounds..... They are all different. A friend of mine had a litter and they boy when grown weighed a whopping 20 pounds and the girl in the same litter never made it over 6 pounds. I do believe this is quite common |
My wife and l would like to thank everyone for there expressions to my thread. Misty, is the most loving, protective dog going, she is so much part of the family, that when she had her last vac, l turned round and could not watch the needle going in. She is a lovelly dog. |
Welcome to YT.. And i agree with the other's.. siblings can be different, you just got the larger baby. When i got Ziggy I also got one for my friend. When we went to fetch her baby the breder showed us his siblings and parents. His sister was double my friends dog's size! But i just think its more yorkie to love.. Plus you dont have too much worrying , my little Ziggy (about 2.4lbs at 5 months) and im always worried about him.. cant wait to see pics of your baby |

Harry came from a litter of 3 - 2 boys and I girl. He was the biggest, then the little girl, then a teensy little boy (about half Harry's size). They do vary so much, even within their own litters - he's over 12 lbs now and apparently twice the size of his dad! So glad you're enjoying her so much, Sally + Harry x |
A Breeder can NOT determine size! And if they tell you otherwise, they are liars. My Mentor had a female that weighed 8 lbs but yet her sister only weighed 3 lbs, tiny tiny girl. |
