When he does what you don't want, say "uh oh", and turn around, going the other direction very fast AND with a big treat sticking it in front of him as you run forward, away from the squirrel. You will have to at first provide a very high-value treat to get your dog's natural excitement off the squirrel and all his smells and activity to that of running the other way toward that wonderful treat. You could try it without the treat but he will likely keep turning his head and you will have to really move to keep his attention off the squirrel without something big to distract him. You will have to repeat this alot and often with big praises and love when he redirects his attention. |
