So disgusted! I work next to a pet store and while I'm not looking to add any more to my family, I do love to cuddle Yorkie babies anytime I get the chance, so seeing them advertising babies I had to stop. Upon entering the store I saw several puppies, but the Yorkie appeared sick and didn't seem to notice me walk up to his cage. I started to open the kennel door, but the owner told me it wasn't allowed to play with puppies before buying one! I mentioned that he appeared sick and she said he was just tired because he got played with all the time. I asked about his age (10 weeks) and commented he was a big boy for just 10 weeks. The owner was arguementative and said he would be within AKC standards and would be 6lbs full grown. I have a 6lb Yorkie so I know this little guy was the size she was at 6 months! She showed no concern for his safety and didn't even glance at the puppy to see if he was indeed sick. I can't believe she has so little compassion for a living animal!!! |
That's so sad! |
I don't blame you for being disgusted, that is sad:( |
She probley was just working there and could care less if it sick  |
Now Im disgusted! What human being with any bit of heart wouldnt rush to it? I understans what OP is saying because i just want to snuggle every puppy i see. I never in a million years thought I would be owned by a Yorkie and am so thankful I am. Store employee sux! |
sounds like a pet store to me! Owners of the stores can be the same as well. there is 1 that is bad near us as well. i won't even go in. |
Heart breaking is right. So sad. I hate pet stores that sell puppy mill babies ! I was at the Dog Pound and got angry at a person who was there to adopt a puppy. I started a thread yesterday about rescue / shelter dogs. I was curious to see what others thought. The whole idea was set off by a conversation with someone. I was so up set with their thinking. When ask regular questions like, do you have other pets , age of children etc. She got very angry and thought that stuff was none of their business. When told the cost of the puppy and spay requirement, she said,' You gotta be kidding, it is a mutt and you otta be glad somebody would want it. Sixtyfive dollars for a spay forget it." I tell you I am known to be easy going and rarely show my temper. I was livid ! I wanted to really go off on her. I said to my companion I wouldn't trust her to water a plant, never mind give her a puppy ! GRRRR Most of us spend more than that, on flea & heart worm prevention . |
That is so sad. There was a pet store by me that recently was bought out. Thank goodness!!!! They no longer sell dogs and cats. I remember seeing a yorkie awhile back that had dried diaherra all over her behind. It was so sad. It had horrible reviews of the owner. Many who bought pets there, many got sick and died. Many Vets around that area warned people not to buy from them. So sad and heartbreaking not only for the puppies but for all the mother's/father's of the puppies. |
The pet stores have no compassion for the animals they sell or they would not support puppy mills,,,,BOTTOM LINE! I am so glad it was not me who experienced this cause knowing me I would have walked out of there with that baby just so I could get it to a vet. That is why I stay away from pet stores. |
That is really sad. It's like buying a car from a salesman that doesn't know anything about the vehicle. The pet store I have in my area is great. It's a wife and husband team and she is also a vet.(her practice is next door) I hardly see any purebred puppies in their store. (We have puppy mills that try to sell to the pet stores) She takes puppies from regular customers and they require full history of parents and even pictures of the parents for the customers to see. This is why I shop there. They are really nice people. |

The petstores here in FtW are mostly Petsmart and Petco they have rescues that come in for adoptions. I dont really know of a local private petstore that sells puppys or kittens, good thing. |
Is the store part of a national chain? I'd make a phone call to headquarters and ask about their policy on sick animals and explain what you saw. I know some require that their stores take any animal that appears to be sick immediately to a vet. |
I'd say that any pet store owner/manager is just as bad as any puppy mill owner. They know very well where those puppies are coming from and what kind of conditions they lived in. Puppy mills have multiple AKC litter registration slips so they can lie about puppies parents and when the pup was born. I would not believe anything a registration slip says that was gotten from a puppy mill. If the puppy had been played with by others I wonder why she would not let you touch the puppy? |
You should call the local SPCA in your area and tell them there are sick puppies and let them check it out. |
