HELP with Carpet We've had our little Lovey for over a year and we love her dearly but she has marked her territory relentlessly on our cream colored carpet, especially when we first brought her home. In the daytime, the marks are very bad, although I have tried everything on the market from Rug Doctor, to professional cleaners, etc. I recently saw Bissell had a new vacuum, Spot Bot for Pets, does anyone know if this product is any good? It's $149 and I really don't feel like spending that if it's not worth it. Any suggestions on any other cleaners, etc.? I can rent a deep cleaner from my grocery store as well - and I also really don't want to get new carpeting if I dont' have to. Appreciate any advice- thanks:( |
Have you tried enzyme cleaner? I've had luck with that to get rid of smells in the car. Have you tried correcting her when she marks? |
I had a spot bot for years until I burned it out. I absolutely loved it and am seriously considering buying another one. |
I have heard woolite is prestty good |
You probably won't believe what I am about to tell you, but it really works !! Good ole Windex !! It's true. It will get red mud out of carpet ! I use it all the time for any kind of stain on my carpet. Just spray a small amount and let it sit for a few seconds, and then take a white cloth and rub it until the stain is gone. On a real hard stain, sometimes it takes a couple of times. Good luck !! |
They all work somewhat for a time but the problem I have found is if you don't have carpet pad with with "moisture barrier" it seems to bleed back up from the pad. Of course nothing lasts forever so I think even with moisture barrier if you don't get it up reasonably quick you will still have odor. We have used all sorts of cleaners including the spot bot and alas over time they are back. Mine sometimes don't know their butt isn't on the wee wee pad even tho all 4 feet are. Then of course Bella just has her own ideas about where she is going to pee, sometimes on the wee wee pads sometimes not. Guess it has to do with her mood. |

Be careful with cream colored carpet using Windex. The Windex turned my carpet pink when I used it. I didn't notice it until the carpet started to dry. |
I'm truly not trying to offend you, but why isn't she house trained? I always heard little dogs were very hard compared to big dogs, but our two little ones were no different. I just spent the first four months making sure I watched them and took them out often. They finally got the idea that they weren't supposed to mess in the home. They both let me know when it's time to go and they go hours in between. It's much cheaper then cleaning a carpet all the time. Good luck!:) |
Is it stain you are trying to get rid of or odor? Once a dog has soiled on a carpet we can sometimes get the odor out so that we cannot smell it but the dog usually can and it is the smell of urine that attracts them to urinate some more in the same area. If the urine has gotten into the under pad there is not much you can do to stop the dog from soiling more except to watch it constantly and get it outside in time. I think at that point I would take up the carpeting and put down some kind of hard floor surface. If you have used a professional steam floor cleaning machine then there is nothing better than that to clean a carpet. |
Glad I ran across this thread. I have a similar problem. There is one room in the house Charlie has done a good job at "marking". You can smell it. :( It got real bad when they were building a fence in the backyard and I wasn't able to let him out back as freely.... Well now he's doing great going outside again, but the urine smell is still in that area. I put some arm & hamor pet spray stuff on it but it seemed to make it worse. I was considering renting a steam cleaner from home depot, but looks like some of you haven't had luck with that. I'll have to check out that bot spot stuff before cleaning the carpet. |
Never had a problem with "pink". I always use the blue windex and white cloth. |
This is a good thread I also have a area that has a pee pad but Tibbers misses the pad some how even though his whole body is on it.....What I'm worried about is the smell the hd says he smells pee always .... |
