OUt of town emergency OK the girls and I are visiting and Mika and Maya start sratching a lot. My girls have never had fleas or tics but I turn Mika over and I can SEE fleas running on her belly. Ok what do I do??? Go get another dose of frontline, some flea shampoo and do a bath and dry???? HELPPPPPPPPPPP |
I would give them a bath in Dawn Dish soap and then follow up with the Advantix. I don't have good results with Frontline. I would use the Dawn so you don't over do the insecticides. I have used Advantix for years and have never seen any fleas/ticks and I am in a bad area for them. Good Luck |
I would bathe in Dawn too, but call my vet for directions before applying more flea meds. |
Thanks Family...as soon as my girlfriend wakes up we are on the way to her dog's vet because I have also found a tic on Mika's let and she WILL NOT let me get it off. THis is horrible my girls have NEVER had a flea or a tic. I am just sick about this. |
Around our parts they have stopped using Frontline, the vets don't recommend it and some places just stopped carrying it. We use Advantix and it works great. I know how upsetting it can be when you don't deal with it often and suddenly you have to. I also recommend the bathing but with something very mild don't use fle soaps and more medication. |
Dawn and I use comfortis, the flea pill. It starts working within 2 to 4 hours. |
OK my friend is up now and we are going to tackle this problem. I have also found a tic on my Mika and I am about to go ballistic. My girls do NOT have creatures on them. My girlfriend's back yard is well maintained and cut, but it is HUGE, hard to control that much acerage I guess. Poor Mika has gotten the worst of this. |
Best she can do is spray the yard with a pest control. My vet also suggested Dawn over any type of flea shampoo; actually said they were a waste of money...lol. I have horrible fleas unfortunately; spraying the yard doesn't help and they've been rampant here for about five years now. The Comfortis seems to have really worked well (wish they made it for cats...but putting a pill in their mouth is pretty daunting) so I will certainly keep that up. The other pill they have (forget the name) works quickly but is short term but might be good for a quick fix. Remember that fleas lay eggs quickly and they are on about a three week cycle so what ever you do make sure you followup regularly to keep the eggs killed so they don't come home with you. |
We are back and the "tic" is not a tic, it is a mole or could be a melanoma the vet tech said |
The Comfortis Pill rolled up in a sliver of American Cheese... Works every time ! ;) |
Sorry to hear your little ones are going through this. Hope the "creatures" are gone in no time. |
