Find your dog app? I was watching a commercial on TV, and a dog started running away from a girl who pulled out her smartphone with an app that showed where the dog was on a map. I would assume the dog has to wear a special collar, but is there really anything out there like this? |
the closest thing I'm finding is findtoto.com and it is a service that can message people in your area if your dog is missing. |
Garmin, the GPS maker, does have this: Yes, it's a special collar with a GPS transmitter. PetTronix also has one: GPS Pet Collar : PetTronix This company appears to have something with a phone app add-on: GPS Pet Locator, GPS Dog Collar, GPS Pet Tracker, SpotLite, SpotLight - Securus Inc. |
GPS Dog Tracking Systems Get More Popular GPS Pet Tracking System – SpotLight & SpotLite Here's a short article I found on the SpotLight. |
makes you wonder if this can be used to steal your dog.....I know I've read on here about alot of animal theft....be careful of this technology. |
Some of those trackers look heavier than our babies :D. |
wow they are expensive!!! |
One of those trackers looks like it's made for a moose, not a dog. I saw the commercial again. It looks like they are telling you what the future will bring, not what's available now. And as the dog was running off I didn't see an antenna sticking up in the air. But, if the price was low and the device was small it's a great idea. I'd even know if Ruger was under the bed or the coffee table. :D Anyway, right now I think I'll just stick with a leash. |
Says it attaches to the collar. So I guess they are only good as long as the thief doesn't take of the collar, which I am sure a lot do pretty quickly. But great idea for just the lost pet. I didn't see the size.... look like from your comments its pretty big. Just like the first cell phone I suppose. They will get more fancy as time goes on. |
Many of the hunters around here use them on their hunting dogs. My son just found a dog with one on and he called the number on the dogs tag and the guy that owned the dog was about a mile away tracking his dog. He had another dog that was 2.7 miles north of my sons house so he was on his way to get that dog too. The guy said they work really well and he was glad he spent the money on them because a well trained dog is expensive. Celeste |
The commercial might have been for Tagg, a collar that works with a mobile app. It's a pretty cool product, but it is expensive, particularly because it requires a monthly subscription (with subscription fees). Someone above mentioned the RoamEO GPS collar. I wanted to mention that it does fit small dogs. The collar can adjust as small as 12 inches. I read an interview somewhere a while ago with the company's president. He's a dog owner himself and invented the GPS collar/handheld receiver system when he lost his dog while hiking (he found the dog!). |
I think it was for tagg but that thing looks kinda heavy and normally with small dogs if outside they should be watched pretty closely because of hawks and such. |
