The vet said no to luxating patella but why then? I got my puppy last week and took him to the vet right away because of his bowlegged legs and he said it was not luxating patella but didn't tell why they look like that. Just. In case I went to another vet and got a second opinion and he also agreed it is not LP. He said it may be he was caged his whole life (he is 5 month old) but from what I've been reading here, most dogs with the back legs like that do have LP. Can anybody tell me if they have been through something like this ? Were your Yorkies diagnosed right away when they were puppies? What should I do? Could two different vets have made a mistake? Thanks! |
The vets know if they have lp or not. My Patti has lp and both the vets at the clinic diagnost that she had lp. Her legs are not bowed in the back. Linda, Sassy and Patti |
Can you post a picture of your little one's bow legs? Sometimes puppies have growth spurts that can cause things to look odd for a little bit or sometimes it's possible that their bones grew like this for some reason (could be normal for them due to their conformation or due to nutritional deficiencies). At least you don't have to worry about LP - thank goodness. Teresa |
It's my understanding that LP can happen one of two ways, genetic or through some accident. When it's genetic, they always have it. Mine was diagnosed at 12 months with a high grade LP. I got him at 12 months, and the vets (I took him to 3) all speculated that he had LP since birth, since it was so high. He doesn't have bow legs. He can't sit like a normal dog, but standing and walking his legs look normal. I've also read that through a leg injury, pups can get LP, but it's a much lower grade. If it's not LP, did the vets offer any other explanation for his legs? |
Buster's fronty legs are bowed. He has been diagnosed with arthritis in his front legs and LP in his back. If you are concerned or your puppy seems to be in pain you might want to consider a consult with an Orthopedic Vet. |
My little Cricket had LP (luxating patellae). She had it in both legs. Hers was not a bad case of it. Her legs were not bowed looking. I agree, I would take him to an orthopaedic specialist. |
