rehoming... yeah right! more like $$$$ priority First off I would love a few opinions on whether my frustrations is justified or not in a rehoming situation like this one... A lady posted an ad on a site that she was getting out of her labradoodle business and recently I have decided to get a large breed dog, she needed to rehome [her exact word was rehome!] some retiring adults and older "left over" puppies in need of home "ASAP" as she could no longer care for them, she didn't say she wanted any money for them in the ad. So I replied since she is from near by and offered to give her $300 for the cost of a spay/neuter and to pay for a vet check and vaccinations for the dog I wanted. So totalling about $400-500 as a rehoming fee about $100 over what all the vet stuff would cost anyways. Her reply word for word from my email acct: Hi, we live in ********** but I'm very sorry we cannot do that. We neuter and spay and do shots etc so that would be like flushing money down the drain. We have 2 almost 5 month olds that are going for the reduced price of $1,800 and 7, 7 week olds that are $2,500. You are welcome to come see out dogs if you would like. If you're in desperate need to rehome your dogs, why would you demand such a price. I could get a show quality yorkie for that! Or a purebred standard poodle as which I prefer over a mixed breed labradoodle. So frustrating! Rehoming... yeah right? Needless to say I have decided on a Bullmastiff who needs rehomed and whom I need transport for from Edmonton, AB. I will post a diff. post about that though. I also start fostering soon, so I guess my doggie fix will be met! |
That's pretty bizarre. I think when someone says they need to get rid of dogs ASAP, that does not mean they make $21,100 off of them! That's an incredible amount of money. |
A lot of people say "rehoming" because they think it sounds good when they are in fact just selling them. I would put money on it that she is also not getting out of the business but is having a hard time selling puppies in this economy and is just trying to sell some quickly. |
I know on Craigslist you are not allowed to sell a dog, so people just use the word "rehoming fee". They are actually selling the dog. |
I'd have to give this lady a pass. |
I am looking for a Yorkie to love I am Leah I have Kameha and he is a 2 year old Dorkie, and he is absolutly adorable! I am looking for a Yorkie playmate for him and to be honest, lol dont tell kameha but I have room in my heart and home for one more, either a baby or adult. I am retired and home all the time, except for thursday evenings when I play APA Pool. if anyone has news on where I can get a baby please send me a text at 951-216-5053 |
Just like when broker sites have "adopt me now!" under each puppies picture, but the "adoption" fee is $2500. Same thing. They are crooks and that's putting it way too nicely. |
what a dishonest greedy woman! I hope all the poor dogs find loving homes! |
Yeah me too. I was going to look for a quality breeder, and saw this lady and thought well, maybe I can give one of the poor breeding dogs a good pet home! Guess not :/ And the bullmastif owner bailed on me, as she wants to meet me first and I can't get to her before the end of september due to my husband having the vehicle out of town til then. Which is totally understandable, I'd want to too! I am a total sucker for unwanted pets. Not so much from byb breeders, but from owners/shelters. So I'll keep searching! I put in a want page at the two nearest SPCA's for what I'm looking for as well! I guess I could be risking the medical problems with a shelter dog or rehome vs. going straight to a quality breeder, but really with so many pets in shelters and online for free by owner why wouldn't I give one a chance at a good life... and I've been saving for medical expenses :D sorry... i talk way too much. |
hi I just checked on Kijiji kelowna and there is a mastiff on there older and some other larger breed dogs to. Be careful and good luck. |

Maggie... thanks :D I'll have to look! I've been mostly sticking to kijiji alberta as I'm in the northern GP area until next fall :/ BUT i'll be in Kelowna for Thanksgiving and Christmas if not before then so I'll have to keep me out there too! I feel bad for the people who get suckered in on the "teacup" "extra tiny" etc on kijiji, not saying they're all going to get rotten puppies, but a lot do end up with problems. I have two friends that bought off there and both their puppies are 4 months and already have at UTI's, Allergies, food sickness, and one was sick with something idk. If you want a purebred or a puppy straight from breeder... take time to find a reputable one for sure :D |
sounds to me like she's using a different tactic to offload her dogs. I had to pay $350 to a backyard breeder that a friend in a rescue steered me towards. I got my little girl scared 3.2lbs (a lb underweight) 4+ years old and open akc paperwork to boot. she even kept trying to tell me this little girl could have more puppies if I wanted...even though the last attempt she made csection and the dog almost died and had seizures. I had savannah in to the vet office my daughter works at immediately (next day) to do a wellness check and the test for putting her under safely. we let her gain the lb before the surgery and she did amazing with her spay. insane though 1800 or more she's wanting greeders |
i DON'T LIKE HER ATTITUDE EDIT:sorry stinking caps lock |
I found her ad her reason for going out of business is that her "health no longer allows to keep up with the dogs like she used to"... So you're in such poor health you can't even take care of the dogs... so why not just find them a good home asap instead of trying to charge 18-2500. HA, I bet if I email her in a month or two she'll still have them or at least most of them. Maybe then she will realize how outrageous her asking price for rehoming is. |
Anyone correct me if I'm wrong here but... Good breeders I know of only "pet out" their "breeding stock" to pre-screened homes, they send them out already altered UTD on vac.s (those whom believe in them) and still require a contract as to protect and ensure their dogs being in homes they approve of. I can understand the urgency perhaps in a health emergency and asking a high price in hopes to ensure the quality of home, glad she gets them altered prior to adoption but as I said I don't like her attitude-as in the words she chooses show a lot. |
Maybe she should have her breed club or breed rescue or some rescue ppl helping her if she's so ill |

I remeber running into someone like that before I got Kaji. I was looking for a rescue or rehome to adopt, and ran into an add for a morkie puppy. I forget what reasoning hey gave for rehoming a 6 month old, but I do remember they asked me for $800 for him in their reply. |
It looks like she just wanted to quickly sell them, and that is why she had her story. She will probably remain in buisness breeding other dogs . That certainly was not a decent "rehoming" fee at all. |
I saw an ad for a rehoming. They said they were moving and could not take the puppy with them. The puppy was two months old. How can you possibley get a puppy that young and have to "rehome" them. People are more educated now than ever before. Many people are looking for a dog, and trying to make sure it does not come from a BYB or puppy mill. So many BYBs and puppy mills are using creative ways to sell their dogs. |
This just about made me cry... I replied to an ad that a guy was wanting to trade his dogs in for sheep. [He was selling the dogs for 1000 each, or 1 dog for 5 sheep which was NOT stated in the ad, he told me this via email.] I offered to take one if he didn't get a trade or buyer, and he in return told me he was not a charity org. and his dogs where worth 1000 at least. I told him very very politely his "dogs shouldnt be worth money they should be worth a good home and that I was sorry for offering less than $1000 and that I was just looking for someone trying to get rid of their dogs, and offering one a good home since he was willing to trade for sheep maybe he would give one to a good reliable home at a lower price. [I figured if he was wanting to trade them for sheep he must not care too much about where they go] His reply: umm dumb ass sheep are worth 200 dollars a peice right now and i wasnt just going to trade for one ....we have 600 sheep and as far as the good home if it comes to the point where i have to give them away i will take them to the vet and have them uthenised I seriously cried, how could someone care so little about the life of an animal who is so loyal to man? Ugh, I think I will put my search on hold. I have put a couple want applications in at the two nearest SPCA's... we'll see what turns up over the next month or so. :/ Those poor poor dogs though I hope someone can buy them for the 1000 the guys wants or give him the sheep and provide a good home!! |
Wow..shes def. trying to use a play on words to get rid of these dogs. She in fact probably isnt going out of business at all, just trying to get a great sob story going..jmo..lol.. |
