Brandi won't stop barking Brandi is not a barker....in fact the only time she barks is when the doorbell rings. I live in Delaware where the hurricane is supposed to pass through. Right now it's just raining but Brandi has been standing on the second floor landing barking. From the second floor landing she can see outside the window above the front door. I've opened the door to show her there was nothing there but she won't stop barking, She is definitely on guard duty but from what I don't know. Could it be that she senses the hurricane coming? My cat is acting okay doing what she does best.....sleeping but Brandi is clearly spooked by something. At least she's not shaking or trembling out of fear. My area was not forced to evacuate as I am about an hour and half from the coast. However they have issued flood warnings for my area. Most people are just staying put for now. At any rate, it's not expected to hit until tommorrow morning. It's been a wild week for us....first we felt the tremors from the earthquake in Virginia earlier this week and now this hurricane. The most we had to deal with was snowstorms and blizzards. Now that I can handle :p. |
Bless her heart. I think I'd close it off and see if she will stop barking then. She might just be feeling extra good and wants the world to know.:) |
How strange that she would be so focused and agitated at this time. I am a firm believer that animals know when something is going to happen. You guys keep your eyes and ears open and I hope you get thru the storm unharmed. |
Thanks ......she's calmed down now. Whew she had me a little freaked out for a minute. She's laying with me on the couch sleeping now. If she starts barking again then it is definitely because she senses the hurricane coming. I hope she doesn't start barking when it gets dark, now that would really freak me out especially since I've been doing nothing but watching scary movies all day and I live alone :D |
I'm not a Yorkie mom yet (hopefully soon though), but I am glad you asked this question. I have been wondering if weather changes are noticed. I hope you guys will make it through the storm safe and sound! Take care! |
She sounds like what they used to call a "weather dog" - one of those dogs acutely aware of coming storms with great barometric changes. I've heard that once the barometer stabilizes, they calm down unless there is a great wind event. Then they just revert to being a regular dog that barks at the wind and/or the loud bumps from things loose in the wind. |
In my experience, birds & animals are far more sensitive to what's going on in nature long before we humans are. Brandi may be sensing something to do with the hurricane or some other weather issue. If she starts up again, you might want to try putting a snug fitting Tshirt on her & see if that helps any. |
I have always heard that animals can sense things before they happen. Many stories have been told about animals being upset before a tornado, hurricane, etc. I really believe that they are true. So, maybe that Brandi is sensing something is not right. Stay safe! |
