I bought my first book! Hey guys! New member Aymee here again. I am looking to become a momma to a Yorkie in a few months. After asking for some advice on here, I went and bought my first Yorkie book to read. I got this one: Yorkshire Terriers (Barron's Dog Bibles Series) - Books - Books & Videos - PetSmart I hope I got a pretty good one. I'm going to start reading tonight. I'm so excited! I'm ready to learn all I can. Anyone else recommend another good book? :) |
Hi, you can always search for any subject your interested in here. You are also welcome to give us a review on the book. :) |
That is wonderful that you are studying before bringing home your pup. I would say no book could fully prepare you for a Yorkie. One book will do, and then spend a lot of time reading this forum to get an inside perspective. Ask questions here for real life experience. I hate to be a downer, but the most important thing about becoming a Yorkie parent is being prepared for the possibility of expensive medical bills. Buying the pup is the "cheap" part. There are many healthy pups out there, but everyone must be prepared for the possibility of liver shunt surgery or a broken leg or pancreatitis. Be prepared for healthcare costs that may range from $500 - $3,000 or more. |
Thank you! I have been reading a lot on here too and I agree, it's a great place for information! I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions in the future! :) Again, thank you both for your input. :) So far, the book is very informative for a newbie. I've learned a lot this evening. |
I agree that you can learn so much on YT. It is easy to read threads about almost everything. I would suggest going to the library that way you can check out and read many books. Some you will really like and want your own copy, then you can buy it. One old classic is by Joan B. Gordon The New Complete Yorkshire Terrier. I also recommend reading books about how to train your dog. There are many ways to train a dog. You have to find one that feels right and stick to it. It is a good idea to set aside the fee for puppy classes too. Watching and doing lessons with a good trainer is a great starting point. Your Vet can probably recommend puppy classes after your puppy has his/ her shots. Welcome to Yorkie Talk. |
