No sleep Ok so we got Gizmo 3 weeks ago and right now we are doing crate training for now. So for awhile he was sleeping for 5-6 hrs at night and waking me up to let him out to potty. This last week has been every 1-2 hrs hell wake up. So the last few nights hed get up at 11 to potty which is normal then at like 11:20 hed be barking and yelping like he has to potty so i let him out and he doesnt have to go he just wants to play with leaves and sticks. So i put him back to be and hes up again at 12ish and does the same thing. Then he stayed asleep until 2 and went potty then slept until 4 then he did the same thing potty then like 20 mins later makes a rukus and we go out and he just wants to play. Then he wakes up again at 5:40 and doesnt have to potty and wont be quite. Our normal schedule is getting up at 6:30 am not 5:40 and he didnt want a drink and no food. I cant just let him yelp as it annoys me and i cant sleep putting him in another room is not an option. I feel kind of stuck at the moment and not sure how to go about changing it back to where we both are sleeping for longer before he gets up. I havent changed anything since weve gotten him, i do think that he is drinking too much water and thats why he gets up every two hours so maybe ill try taking water away an hr before bed and see what happens. But an x pen isnt an option right now and neither is puppy pads so if theres other thoughts on this other then those thatd be great. Oh and how do you get them to be quite and listen to you? I say Gizmo quite and he just keeps going ive heard tap on kennel and say quite that doesnt work, ive heard put your hand there so they know ur there and say quite that doesnt work, ive also heard gettting a can of coins and shaking it when they yelp and that didnt work i just want him to know when i say quite that he needs to be quite. |
When we got Bella she did the same thing the HD and I sleep with ear plugs and she is in the living room in her crate now...well actually she prefers to sleep with Tibbs in his crate since he got his cast off and is pretty happy in there with him. DO you have another small dog?? Or maybe buy her a big stuffed animal. |

Puppy's are trying to adapt to not being with their mom and dad and brothers and sisters...They are a little unsure. I looked and thought that this might help: ![]() Product Description Adorable plush pillow uses the sound of a heartbeat to calm and sooth an anxious puppy or dog. The pillow contains a heartbeat mechanism that can be turned on as desired or removed for washing. It provides a great way to reduce separation anxiety in dogs and/or ease the transition into a new home for a puppy. Good luck....:p |

Well, all I can say is the first night that I allowed Jackson to sleep on my bed, he slept through the entire night, no noise, no nothin'. So the rest is history. He's been in my bed with me since he was about 16 weeks old, lol. |

I wouldn't be too afraid of the larger dog as long as they get along. While my Silky doesn't come home until tomorrow my two dogs that I have now have crated together since the second one came home. The Golden is about 90lbs and the Rat Terrier is about 18lbs. Ginger stretches out on one half of the crate and Tudie usually curls up in the back corner with her head on Ginger's butt. They've been fine together for about 7 years now. |

Wow i might have to try that,i just figured theyd think its play time or something they play all the time together, maybe every other day theyll leave eachother alone for maybe 5 mins and chew their bones then their back to playing but itd be worth a try |

Hang in there! I have had my babies for 11 weeks now and they have just started letting me sleep until 5:30am, which is when I normally get up. I was getting up with them every morning at 3:30am-4:00am and playing with them until it was time for me to leave for work at 7am. Additionally we were getting up a few times during the night. I have mine in the master bathroom with the doorway gated off. They have a few beds, their potty pads, toys and water bowl. They can see me when I am in the bed. I bought my pups a Best Pen Folding Play Pen from Amazon. It has mesh sides and top and a canvas type bottom. It did not work for containment for my two (I got it for in the kitchen), but may be an option for temp sleeping solution. It is big enough for a small bed, a potty pad (which is not an option for you right now - but the floor is water resistant) and water dish and a few toys. Might give him a little room to move around and entertain himself a little bit. |

How you deal with it depends on you and the doggie. It will get better. My friend has a puppy and she uses a toy that she got at Walmart that has a heart beat. It is a regular baby toy. I have two puppies right now. Each puppy has their own crate. The first few nights they cried and I used a sound machine set on the heart beat sound, they had to get used to sleeping alone. I don't think that is why your puppy is crying to get out. I think he is crying because he wants to be with you. Try taking him for a brisk walk so that he will be tired. And try to prevent him from taking long naps in the evening. I know after working I just want put my feet up and rest. But Puppies need to be busy so they will be tired at bed time. You can even sit on a chair and toss a ball for him.( My neighbor does this from his wheelchair. He has a Minpin and they play every evening. It is so cute.) You can teach him QUIET during the day or evening. When he barks say QUIET and Reward when he is quiet, with a tiny rice sized treat. You can do this when he is in his crate at night. Say QUIET wait a few seconds for him to be quiet and reward. Still take him out on a leash before putting him to bed and about 6 hours later he prob. really needs to pee again. My puppies are almost 6 months old. I put them to bed at 11pm and they wake me about 6 am. My Adult Yorkies wait until I get up around 8:30am. I must be honest, one of my Yorkies sleeps with me. I got her as an adult. She was not crate trained. She barked and whined in terror. I opened the crate to take her out, thinking she might need to pottie. She jumped on the bed shaking. I talked to her quietly, she stopped barking and made a little nest. She has been in my bed since. Hope you get a good nights rest soon. :) |
