The Countdown in on Stressful day today. Little Fergie is at the vet getting a tooth pulled and her microchip done. Then it's waiting until Friday afternoon to officially adopt her from the shelter. So, about 50 hours until she comes home. :( I did "feel" some progress today. The shelter put her down as "Adoption Pending" on the PetFinder site so that was some measurable change..lol. Can't wait for Friday!! :D |
:) awwwww you must be sooooooo excited ;) friday will soon be here :) cant wait to see photos , luv jill n poppy xx :aimeeyork |
Just got an update from the foster. After the vet cleaned her teeth, he had to pull FIVE teeth, not just one. She'll be on pain meds for a week. Guess that will affect what she can eat both short term and long term. Not sure if this affects her coming home on Friday or not. |
Hmmm, wondering if there are any long term issues for what she can eat both now and going forward. Do small breeds have more teeth issues? My rat terrier is 7 and has all her teeth so this is a first for me to have to deal with. |
Not sure about teeth issues but I wanted to say Congrats!! I know how excited you must be!!! Can't wait to hear that you have her and everything is great! :) |
I'll be calling my vet today. I'm getting worried that I might be biting off more than I can chew as every time I talk to the foster there is another revelation about another health issue I wasn't aware of. |

My adopted baby (who was used for breeding....) had to have 25 teeth pulled. She now only has her 4 front teeth left. She only gets wet food and the occassional very moist treat. If I give her kibble, I have to put it in water and ground it up for her but that's very rare. |

My baby had several medical issues and it took awhile to get them all sorted out. Fortunately, they weren't life threatening. However over time it did add up. Thankfully I didn't have to do everything all at once. I don't want to scare you put you should be prepare for vet bills. This goes for any pet healthy or not. If you are able to, set some money aside monthly for your little one's care. That way in the event that you do have vet bills you will be prepare. |
Just hung up with the shelter foster. We'll meet at 2:30 tomorrow to finalize the adoption so Fergie (not sure what her name will be once we get her home...I like to take time to name my pets when the right name hits me) will be coming home tomorrow. Gotta call the vet in the morning to make an appointment for Saturday morning just to get her checked out by my vet. Nervous about that too since it's a new vet we are transitioning to for all our pets. Stress levels rising to get her home and hope for a quick coming together for all the pets. |
Nervous nervous this morning. Woke up about an hour earlier than normal. Just spent 15min telling my two dogs I love them and even when I bring home the new dog later today that I won't love them any less. I hope they know that. Bringing a blanket for the car seat in case of an accident while driving home. Also to help her get my smell during the ride. Ordering the Mink Sheen today (and will use the link on the YT home page..thanks for the reminder!!!) so I have that for next weekend. Have her crate set up last night near the other dogs crate so they can see each other at night and have some proximity. Both are in my bedroom (getting crowded in there now...the wife stubbed her toe on the new crate this morning in the dark). Want to get a couple of the little padded baskets for them to lay in, one for each so the old dogs get a new present too and don't feel left out. Gotta remember to bring the leash and harness with me....make the vet appointment today for tomorrow...and I know I'm missing a million things. |
Please post pics Asap :-) Wishing you the best with your new baby :-) |
Hope all goes well today. Congrats on your rescue girl! |
Awwwwwww......... Can't wait for the next update and to see pics. :) |
You might want to consider brushing your dog's teeth once it is all settled in. Yorkies do tend to have more tooth issues then some other breeds. I think it is a better idea then having to have the dog put under anesthetic to have teeth cleaned at the vet. So excited for you and your new family member. |
Congrats...can't wait to see pics. |
