Willow, Allie and The Baby Possum I about had a heart attack last night. I always let the girl's outside about 10:00 before night, night time. I let them out and Willow and Allie take of to the little garden right off the patio. They are just a growling away. I get the flash light and lo and behold they cornered a baby possum. It was laying there playing dead. I had grab both girl's and get them in the house. I went back over with all things a damn broom and a small box. I swept it out the area and on the other side of small fenced area and swept it into the box. Boy that thing has ugly teeth. Got in the car and drove it up the road to a big field and let it out.Heck don't want it in my yard. Come back just dripping in sweat and breathing real hard. Finally get them back out to pee pee. They still continue to go over to that area looking for that "THING" LOL I guess I have to call my Brother -In-Law to please come over and put in a BIG light in that area so I can see. |
They are so creepy looking, just giant rats, yuck. Maybe a motion light would scare them away. |
Not too long ago someone had one in their yard too. ladyjane has one that visits her yard and she has the cutest pic.s of her dogs reacting to it. I am glad you took it away and let it free. I can't help it, they give me the shivers. |

Here is a picture I took of one running in the early morning after a huge thunderstorm, I think it got rained out of it's day hiding place and was running to new place. LOL http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL89/.../395753292.jpg |
What creeps me out is when their eyes light up in the dark when you shine a light on them! |
That is creepy. I'm sorry but I have enough of all these critters in my yard this summer! |
Now this really surprises me, I thought you guys had a better concept of animal husbandry than this ! :D That poor little Possum wasn't hurting anything, just trying to eak out a modest subsistence. ;) Of course, I hope you realize I'm razzing you a little here, but... We have a Possum named "Sweetie", which comes through the yard each evening. Those little guys are just great Janitors for our environment. Anything left in the yard (dead/whatever) is gone by morning. TxVicki, I rather doubt that your intervention with it, will have much effect on it's return. Those guys are creatures of habit, and the only way to "reduce" their tours through your property, is to eliminate any food/water resource which may attract them. I go with the flow... We have a Doggy Door, and close it each evening at 8 PM. Both of my Yorkies are regular attendants at the (closed) Patio Door, and growl viscously, when they see Sweetie pass through. Sweetie and the Postman, are two of their highlights of the day. |

They usually just stay on top of the fence each night going to where ever they are going. LOL No possum last night. I checked the outside before I let them out. I also don't have a doggie door, I don't believe in them. |
I have always heard they are vicious. I don't think you should pick them up. |
EEEWWWW ......shivers..... |
You must have been scared! Lol. These Yorkies sure know how to find them critters! But I must say, I was laughing that you put it in a box and carried it off. There is no way I would have been brave enough to do that! :p:p That is when I start screaming for DH! |
