What is the best harness for a full coated Yorkie? I've been using a narrow, nylon step in harness for Wendell since we adopted him last March. I leave it on him all of the time, to make it easier for our dog walker who comes in daily to take him out. His previous owners had kept his coat fairly short. His coat is growing out beautifully, but the only places he gets tangles are across his chest and between his front legs. Has anyone found a harness that will help minimize these tangles? Or should I get him a collar so that he always has on his ID tag, and just put the harness on him when he goes for walks? |
I think the collar and tags is a good idea, and only harness for walks. |
i take the harness off after walks-we don't have long hair |
We use Buddy Belts exclusively. We always brush them completely before we put the harness on and brush the hair through the harness before buckling the harness. I never leave the harness on all day - only on for walks and then I take it off and do another complete brushing after. Oh the joys of having a full coat... |

My boys are in full coat and we use the BB harnesses. The harnesses are easy to put on and take off, so they are only worn for walks. Arranging the hair before buckling minimizes tangles. Teddy has a little hair breakage on his back from the harness, but that is because my father lets him pull. |

I agree, to teach your walker to put his harness on. Leaving it on all the time can't be comfortable for him, and if he is alone, he could get it caught up on something when no one is around (same with a collar). Also, a quick brushing out in the tangle areas after your walk is a good idea to keep the coat from breaking. |

Do you have any problems with them coming unloose during your walk? |

I love this idea of the tshirt under the harness. I am going to start doing that for mine, thanks! |
Also, I do keep a collar on Shield @ all times with ID on it just in case he were to get lost! I just don't use it for anything but IDs. |
Harnesses I have used a harness on Kobi since we got him. He does not like a collar. My problem is this. Tonight I noticed a spot next to his joint under his leg that is about the size of an eraser on a pencil. It is red and ruff and raised. I think it has come from the harness rubbing him when he walks. I only let him wear the harness when we go for a walk. Would the BB harness help stop this rubbing ? Any suggestions anyone ? Thanks. |
