yorkietalkjilly | 08-22-2011 08:00 PM | I am so proud of your watchdogs for keeping your car safe!!! Yorkies and other small dogs can be wonderful watchdogs as nothing seems to escape their hearing. I hate it when Tibbe goes on a growling or barking spell late at night because I know it is something he is taking seriously, yet am so grateful for the warning. I get up, turn on all the lights, get my gun and sit and listen! And praise him in the process. He's very discriminating and only barks when he hears something he knows should not be there. We have a very active neighborhood with lots of coming and going evenings, people out sitting in the yard, kids playing, swimming, etc., and even after dark, when I hear car doors slamming or something, he never turns a hair. My nextdoor neighbor works a late night shift and goes to work in the middle of the night and he never barks when she leaves as he is familiar with her sounds. But if he hears something unexpected, he barks and I am so grateful for the heads-up. I feel so much safer with him! I don't know how I made it so long after Jilly's death without another dog. I remember I was really scared at times if I heard a strange sound. Now, if Tibbe doesn't react, I relax as I know it is something he knows about but isn't worried about. |
