Coat Question 1 Attachment(s) Hi everyone Poppy is over a year old now and still does not have ANY grey hair growing through on her back? Does this mean she will probs stay black on her back? here is a picture. Oh and what kind of coat does Poppy have a cotton or silk coat? I never knew how to tell lol:rolleyes: Attachment 351616 |
My Bentley is over a year now and is mostly black too. I think I have read that they can still change for a few years. Of course I am no expert and Id love to hear their opinions on it and her coat type bc Bentley looks the exact same texture. She is beautiful by the way. |
^^I agree, I think adult coat/colors are usually apparent at age 3-4. I'm not an expert, but I believe they continue to change throughout their lives. Max was still very dark on his first birthday. He is going to be 3 in November and his head has finally cleared. His saddle is a dark, steely color. |
Louis is 3 years old and his hair is still black on his back with a tiny bit of silver. It looks like Poppy has a silky coat. She is very cute! :) |
Cali is 6 and still all black. Pixie is 5 1/2 and black with a few silver hairs and Roxie is almost 4 and until recently was all black now it is looking more grey. Poppy looks to me like she has a silkier coat. |
Thank everyone :D hehe <3 xxx |
ah she's precious |
The yorkie coat is a little difficult to understand. A proper coat is really not pure black it's called blue because it's almost a metallic shade of black. The way the light hits it you see silver-like color, but on close examination, there is really no silver or white. It’s just the way the light reflects off their coat. If I put Joey next to an all black yorkie, he definitely looks lighter. While the dark blue is the preferred yorkie coat, some yorkies have what they call a light blue and look more silver. Females often get lighter with each season or after giving birth. All black yorkies generally don’t have the silky coat their hair is most likely cotton, and fast growing. Many breeders will keep an all black yorkie in their line to keep the blue from getting too light. This article explains some of the genes involved. Quote:

Hi Natasha -- I think Poppy is absolutely beautiful. My only concern is the obvious lack of toys she has at her disposal. HA HA HA... sorry, couldn't help myself. I love that she is surrounded by lots of toys and some as large as she is!!! What a beautiful little girl you have there!!! |
