what to do? Hi, My little girl Chloe is 4 and 1/2 mos. old. She has had kennel cloth since I got her, 6 weeks ago. She coughs in the morning and sometimes at night, but mostly in the morning when she first gets up. She had been on antibiotics twice now. This is her last day of medicine. But she is still coughing. I know it takes a long time to get over. But why doesn't the antibiotics work? I have read on the internet that honey is good to use. Also vitamin c. Does anyone have any suggestions. Has anyone tried honey or vitamin c? I am taking her back to the vet tomorrow. I want this gone! |
I am so sorry. I know it is hard when they are sick. I don't have any advice at all for you. But sending you prayers and hugs to get through this. |
When Gizmo had kennel cough, he was prescribed antibiotics as well as a small doggy dose of Robitussin or however you spell it. May want to call the vet to see if he could recommend a cough supressant as well. Just like humans, his little throat is probably really irritated from the coughing causing him to cough more. Good luck with yuor baby, let us know how it goes! |
When Gidget had kennel cough they gave her Tussagon (a cough med). That really helped. The vet also added Claritin bc he thought there was also an allergy component along w the infection. Plus the couple of courses of antibiotics, and it finally got under control but took almost 2 months. |
I rarely give medical advice except to say take your dog to the Vet. Because I do not work in the medical field, and not exposed to the newest information. But I do know, your Vet can give your dog a cough suppressant. I also know there are different kinds of KC (Kennel Cough) so sometimes it takes more than one medicatication. Talk to your Vet tomorrow, Update us when you can. |
Thanks everyone for the advice and concern. I'm just praying this will be over soon! |
I have no good advice, but I hope Chloe starts feeling better soon. Poor baby |
Antibiotics don't cure kennel cough (just like they don't cure the common cold in people). It can help prevent secondary infections (like pneumonia). A cough medicine can be used (if vet approves) to keep your pup comfortable. My vet likes robitussin. Worked well for my dogs. |
