Arg, this is taking too long! My little boy Ziggy is now 17 weeks old. He has a silky coat (from what i've read here on how to tell which coat they have) so i really want to let his hair grow out. Its growing slow, which is fine, BUT im just worried about the hair on his face. Its in that phase where its long enough to sometimes cover his eyes, but not long enough to tie up. I feel so bad for him, like maybe he cant see, lol.. Its not irritating the eyes which is good, but still. He's perched on my chest right now napping, keep trying to brush it away from his eyes. But he keeps waking up and looking at me like: "im trying to sleep here" What age was your baby when were you able to tie up their hair? And what did you do in the "in-between" stage? |
2 Attachment(s) Rosie has the long hair but I keep the eye are and nose bridge cut. My groomer don't like doing it because she wants it to grow out but I like it clean around her face. She had mentioned using something to make the growing hairs "lay down" but I am so sorry, I just don't remember what it was. Maybe someone else will know. Here are a few pictures of how I keep her face cut. Good luck! :) Attachment 351528 Attachment 351529 |
Waiting for the topknot and mustache to grow is rough. :) Hair grows at different rates on individual dogs. Max was about 4.5 months old when his little topknot finally kept his "eyebrows" out of his eyes. A couple months later, his mustache was long enough to lay down flat. I used a tiny bit of vaseline in the meantime to keep the hair out of his eyes. Some people use PetSilk topknot gel. Whatever product you choose, make sure it is safe for your pup's eyes and that it doesn't get in his eyes. When Teddy was about 8 months old, he still had a tiny topknot. |

thanks for sharing the pics. Rosie is so pretty!. It looks great on her. You cant even tell that its cut. But im just worried that i'll then always have to cut it. and ziggy isnt the best at stayin still, lol. i think i just have to wait it out :/ |

Now just to get him to stay still while i do it. I've even gone as far as clipping it back (while he's sleeping of course, lol..) but it slips off. Oh one question, will i have to wash/whipe if off everyday? That's not a problem, i just want to make sure i do it properly and don't mess up his hair... |

Thank you so much! :) Rosie is my baby. She is just a little spoiled. :p Yes, you will have to keep it cut then. I have to go about every one to two months to have Rosie's face trimmed. |
well how could you not spoil a face like that:) yeah, see i think ziggy would be seriously pissed at me every month or two then, lol.. i even have to towel dry him coz he hates the blow drier!lol. i think he thinks he's a rottweiler (sp), he doesn't understand why i fuss over his hair and bum and ears etc daily.. lol |
I did one snap clip for a while when Kaji's hair was growin out. It helped tremendously. :) |

They are human ones. I got really small ones meant for little kids. |
Be careful with any type of hair clip or accessory. Kaji is a good boy with his, but I'm pretty sure my Max would have tried swallowing something like that and choked. Depends on the dog. With the Vaseline, buy a fresh jar and use it only for your pup. Don't dip your fingers in the jar. Use a clean utensil to pull a tiny bit out. Doesn't take much at all. It isn't pretty, but if you are growing out the hair, it is a nice temporary fix. If you trim, keep trimming and forget the Vaseline. |

Is the PetSilk top knot gel the same texture as vaseline? I was letting Gracie's face grow out and it IS super frustrating. I took her to the groomer this week and told her to just trim the top of her nose and leave the top of her head alone as I was letting it grow. Instead she cut the top of her head shorter than it was! Gracie has very fine silky fur and she is a small boned dog so her head is kind of tiny. Now I can't even get the elastic to stay in the front of her head. I could scream. The groomer is a whole other story but I was thinking of trying the top knot gel if it works. Vaseline sounds like it would just make her fur icky faster. I mean she gets her face into a lot of things and it seems like vaseline would just make dirt and food or whatever she stuck her face in stick to it. Does the top knot gel stay sticky or does it dry in another form? |
