Puppy Coat Question... please help! My little guy Toby is now 14 weeks and 2 days! He is growing and changing everyday, and even though I should remember this from Chloe, it seems to have slipped my mind. Toby has become a furball. His hair is wild and poofy, and he looks like a roly poly until you bathe him... and then he looks like a rat! The hair on his head has started to show lighter roots, and even the black on his head is silky, but his puppy coat on his body is not silky, and very wild. I know this is his puppy coat, but is having this puppy coat an indication of him having a cottony adult coat? I remember panicking about Chloe's puppy coat - and she has a beautiful silky coat that continues to change as she ages. I don't remember it being so fluffy, but I could be wrong. She was also larger than Toby. At 12 weeks Chloe was already at 2.58bs... and 14 weeks Toby is 1.9lbs (almost a whole lb difference). Any info would be very much appreciated! Thanks a million! |
I would just wait and see if I were you. Soft coated or silky, you'll love him anyway! :) he might grow out of this stage just like your other pup. What does his breeder say about this? |
Thanks. You are right, I will love him no matter what. I havent asked the breeder - but was wondering what a normal "yorkie puppy coat" was like. It's just like Regular black Dog fur ... But extra fluffy lol! Quote:

I wouldn't know. Kaji was older, all his puppy coat was gone when he came home. I will say this, from a few pics that I did see, his puppy hair did not look soft and fluffy. It looked frizzy and nappy. That was cut off to reaveal an adult soft news growing under all that frizz. |
This is not a brush off, just advice type in: puppy coat in upper right corner of forum. Many threads have been writen about this. I can't say with out seeing and feeling his coat. But, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Toby is so blessed to have you and I am sure he will be loved and spoiled no matter what. :) |
