What do you use for fleas ? I have a 7 month old furbaby :aimeeyork & she is just a joy to be around, & currently weighs in at 3 1/2 pounds & b/c of her weight I don't have as many options for flea prevention medications. I've always used K9 Advantix II for small dogs 10lbs. & under ; & over 7 weeks of age & have occasionally used Capstar in between, since I've had her. (BOTH Vet recommended) They BOTH seem to work fine, but I was wondering which flea prevention medications or natural flea sprays/oils you have found work the best for you ? & for those of you that do use natural flea spray/oils that work, how is the smell ? does it smell good or is it ever overwhelming, repulsive or annoying ? Any responses would be greatly appreciated :D , b/c I'd like to learn everything I can . ;) |
I use the K9 Advantix on all of mine. I've never had to use Capstar or anything else between doses. My grandmother used to swear by brewers yeast tablets for preventing fleas, she would also use Avons Skin So Soft to rinse her dogs with after their baths. |
I use Advantage II. I have used Capstar as well when the flea season is in full swing. Wish there was a natural product that worked against those nasty bugs but they are so capable of becoming resistant to anything used against them. July, August and September are the worst of the flea season for us and that is when Capstar becomes necessary sometimes. Nasty vicious little bugs! |
We use Frontline Plus and have used it for a year and a half...but would like to switch to more organic methods...will be interested to see other people's methods too! |
I use half doses of frontline on my dogs. I've never seen a flea or tick on mine thankfully! |
Advantix II would be 3 drugs, so with Capstar that's four. Way too many for my comfort level. I use Frontline if I see fleas (don't really have ticks to worry about in our case and I'm willing to take the risk of getting fleas just so I don't have to drug monthly - but I watch my dogs very closely and notice extra scratching, etc., so check often..). Or sometimes I just use Sentinel if I had decided to buy it instead of Interceptor that month. I really like Sentinel, but I don't like paying extra for it when we rarely have flea issues. |
Advantage and we only use it when we notice one of our pets has fleas and weve never had a flea prpblem |
