Having a sudden jealousy issue, help! I don't know what to do. All of a sudden, at 5 years old, little Luna has gotten extremely possessive of her Daddy, but only if it's in the middle of the night:rolleyes: She sleeps next to hubby's face, and if Izzy tries to cuddle up, too, she GOES OFF!!!!! Snarling, snapping, and mean as can be. We've been dealing with it by putting her off of the bed and taking up the steps so that she can't get up on the bed. We're hoping to teach her that this kind of behavior results in getting kicked out of bed, but don't know if it's the right thing to do. The only other time that Luna has behaved this way, was over Izzy trying to take her bully stick after eating up her own, and were since removed from their diet for that reason. And that was mild compared to this. They cuddle and play together all the time. Luna is a Daddy's girl for sure and wants to hog him all the time, but she never growls or snaps at Izzy at any other time than in the middle of the night. She will "share" Daddy just fine while watching TV or napping, as long as she has her spot on his shoulder, next to his face. It's like she's got to be closer to his face than Izzy:confused: This middle of the night ugliness has happened twice over the last 2 weeks. I wondered if Izzy scared/startled her out of a deep sleep and that's why she got all crazy? I've been awake now since about 1:30 am, so if my post doesn't make enough sense, please forgive me and ask any questions that may help y'all to help me. I told hubby that we were possibly going to have to ban the dogs from our bed for a while, if not permanently and he hates that idea:( They're his babies, you know? Any tips? |
Well, I'm gonna try to nap now. Hope that someone will have an idea or two for me later on;) zzzzzzzzzzzzz |
aww little furbabies!! I hope you figure out whats going on with them.. |
I'm struggling with this now and very sleepy. I'm taking care of my sons two dogs, and last night they were having a problem deciding where everyone slept. I'm about ready to put them all in a kennel! Joey has first dibs, and he does try to tell them to back off, and actually they listen to him better than they listen to me. They are all passed out right now, and I'm downing coffee, trying to stay awake. |
Oh boy! I have 2 boys but they never fight over me. I think you are doing the right thing by putting her down on the floor and picking up the stairs so she can't get back up. Not sure how else you can 'tell' her that her behavior is unacceptable. I have a dog bed at the end of our bed on a truck that is the same level as our bed. When we go to bed, we make them go in their bed and cover them with a blanket. Maybe try doing that, letting them sleep 'with' you but not in your bed, in their own bed that is where your bed is. That way NEITHER of them get Daddy for the night. Usually my BF wakes up to a furry butt in his face, or to Dexter staring at him straight in the face about 2 centimeters away wanting to be pet! LOL |
My yorkies do it from time to time its just a growl to the other one and I just let them work it out between them. If it bothers you though you may have to remove them from the bed but you may find they pick other times to do it. They are just saying its my turn now |
I am so glad I ran across this thread. Like I said in an earlier post, we decided to keep two of Sadie's pups, Thor and Little bit.Now Scooter has always been the leader of the pack but for some reason all of a sudden,Sadie is challenging him and she is winning. She wont allow any of the other dogs to sleep close to me . She growls and snaps at them and when I tell her no she goes to the end of the bed . Scooter has decided it is just easier to stay away from her in the bed but the pups want to be right by my side. Also, Sadie has challenged Scooter over toys and food and they have tied into a couple of bad fights where I had to pull them apart. Does anyone know why she would be doing this? |
I would guess Sadie is fighting to be 'top dog'. If you want to stop this behavior, you can give Scooter his food first, give him treats first, pet him first, let him jump on the furniture first next to you, let him out first, do a lot of your firsts with Scooter, this will help Sadie to realize she is part of the pack, not the top dog. :) Good Luck!! |
Thanks to all of you:) We decided to keep the pet stairs up last night and not allow them onto the bed for a while. Luna cried for a while, but I got up to use the bathroom, and when I was getting back into bed told her "go to your bed". She did and I actually got the best night's sleep I've had in a long time. It's so weird that this only happened in the middle of the night, leaving me to wonder if Luna was just so deeply asleep that Izzy scared her really badly. Izzy tends to start out in her bed beside ours, then I think she gets cold or lonely and creeps up to Daddy in the night. Oh well, problem solved, at least for now! We're working on reminding Miss Luna that she is NOT leader of the pack;) |
