You think they are not smart??? Think again. Dudley (2yrs) has always wanted to go to bed at 10:00pm. Now, how he knows its 10:00 I don't know but he doesn't miss it by a minute. He will fuss and bark at my husband until he goes to bed. He and Kayla sleep with us and he has to be lifted on the bed because he is too little to jump up on it. Just this week he has started scratching my leg and barking at me wanting me to go to bed. Sometimes I will stay up a little later and he has started to be like,,,, no, we ALL go to bed at 10:00. If you happen to roll over and bump him he will also growl. Never bites, just fuses. He is always ready to give kisses. Then, people think......they are just dogs. They are smarter than some people nowadays. |
Callie is used to staying up late with me but around 1:30am she will start crying and throwing things and acting up because she want to go to bed. I used to cry when I was younger apparently (mom says) to go to bed so she says Callie is doing to me what I used to do to her :D |
Thats funny. Paybacks. But, these little ones are just like having little toddlers. Sometimes we spell what we want to say because they understand so much. Kayla will sometimes just stare at me. Like she is trying to figure me out or probably thinking what she can get away with. lol!!! They copy each other. She is a bad example for Dudley and now we have noticed Lexi is acting like them in somethings. She was always my good little girl. Kayla just looks for something to get into. |

You are right they are smarter than you think! Our Poppy has got very cunning at getting her treats! It started when we was toilet training her by giving her a treat when she did her business outside. We would let her out first thing in the morning after going through the night without doing anything in the house! She would go about her business and subsequently get a treat for being a good girl. We got suspicious whe she started to squat then look at us for a treat just minutes after her first time! Her downfall came when she acted as if she was going for a wee again then looked at us for a treat! But this time she did it on the patio and there were no signs of any wetting! Could this be her tricking us into giving her a treat and has learned if she squats she gets a treat? We just laugh now as it so funny when she does it then comes trotting to us all proud of her self and it just shows her cheeky temperament! :aimeeyork |
Unfortunately I got in a habit of getting up at 4 AM in the morning when I got Sassy to take her potty, and now she wakes me up every morning at 4 AM no matter what day it is. The other 3 are happy to sleep all day. |
Troy is like that also. He eats at 11pm every night. Even if I'm in the bed and the lights are out, he's munching at his bowl. After he eats he comes right back to bed on a very full tummy, gives a good belch and will sleep the night away on his back until it's time for me to go to work. He is so smart that if I say go wake my daughter up. He will go wake her up for school in the morning so I don't have to. He'll jump on her head, nibble her fingers, stare at her face until she is up and out the bed. I love him, he's so awesome! |

Oh my goodness Yorkies are so smart, I agree it is like having a very young child. Maybe because they have been house pets for so many generations they are more childlike than most dogs. I really think they understand our facial expressions, body language, and words better than most people. Of course they smell our chemical changes too. This sums it up nicely. " Dogs understand you, accept the real you, keep your secrets, comfort you, love you unconditionally, want to live with you, protect you, forgive your mistakes, are always loyal and will follow you where you want to go. If I could find a man like that I would marry him !" Smart Woman |
LOL!!!!!!!! Riley starts getting fussy around 10:00...10:30. When he was in his xpen I would put him in it and then come back out in the living room... I wouldn't latch the door all the way though. He would come back out... I would tell him... You can go to bed, by yourself... Noooo!! He wasn't having that. He would try and be bossy and fussy until either I went in with him... Or I would ignore him and he would settle down up on the couch. :) |

My two always amaze me with the words they seem to understand. If I'm getting ready to go somewhere, they will follow me around (hoping they will get to go) untill I say mommy has to go to work, then they go jump on their beds with pitiful looks on their faces. Also, if you're not ready to go for a walk---don't dare say the word out loud. I just love how smart they are. |
When my husband starts home from work, he always calls me to let me know he is on his way. When he pulls up out front and they hear me say, I love you too, they go crazy. Espically Lexi. She loves her daddy and gets so excited when he comes in. He has to pick each one up and love them. Well, its 11:22 here, and low and behold, here comes little boss to tell me to get in bed. He has been in bed with daddy since 10:00 and will not give up until I go to bed. He is barking, but, I'm going to ignore him. lol!!!!!! |
