How to put weight on Ella is 5 months old and weighs 1.6 lbs. Our vet said it would be better for her to be over 2 lbs when we do her spay. She suggested giving her Nutrical 2x a day along with her regular feeding schedule. What else can I do to put some weight on her without giving her a ton of fatty foods which won't be good for her?? |
Wow she is so tiny! Her face is too cute. I would think to mix her food with boiled chicken or something that she would really love. That might help her eat more. Does she eat kibble or canned food? |
Giving Nutrical to gain weight is the same as giving sugar to a human to gain weight. Not the right approach, in my non-expert opinion. I would encourage activity and good eating habits and a good food. Activity will build muscle, which weighs more than fat, and will increase her appetite. What food does she eat? |

She eats kibble - Iams puppy right now mixed with the Natural Balance we are switching her over to. I give her boiled chicken and some veggies regularly and she is getting treats daily because she is in puppy class and we are working on her commands. |

Sounds like a good diet and like she is a good eater. You may just have to be patient. |
My vet suggested mixing equal parts of wet and dry food. She also said a bit of sweetened condensed milk would help. Mine weighs 6.5 lbs, he's just very thin. |
