I think Princess is feeling neglected. That past couple of weeks my schedule has done a complete turn around. I used to stay up til 4a.m. & now get up at that time to leave for work.:confuse2: I haven't worked since I've had Princess & I think it's really bothering her. Plus dd (the only other occupant) has volleyball practice often & is gone a lot. If we drop dd off Princess will whine,:wavecry: this is something she's never done. I'm busy trying to deal with the schedule & all of these mandatory classes, volleyball meetings, etc. & I am sooo tired everyday so I've been napping & still trying to go to bed early. :panic: If I'm on the PC or something I will still toss her ball, etc. & once I sit & settle down I play with her the entire time. I just feel bad, she's probably like what the heck!? She seems to be way more sensitive to noises than before & is freaking out at the slightest sound.:dogsm6: She has access to all of her toys, food & water while I'm gone. She can't have any chews & I don't want to give her a filled kong as I'm worried about upsetting her medically. She does have access to the balcony when I'm home & I've been taking her outside for air at least once an evening. I've also been taking her every where possible in the car since I know she loves it so much. I also give her a very good scratch & brush to try to relax her. She really seems so on edge.:rollingey:doghop: Mostly I just wanted to vent, but if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them.:scratchhe Will she eventually adjust & forgive me?:hands: |
Aww...sounds like Princess has anxiety. I think just like you she has to adjust but it's a little hard for her because you were the center of her world and vise versa. Can you leave the radio or t.v. on when you are gone? Did you take her with you when you run errands and such? Maybe that would help. Overall I think she just misses you lots and needs time and reinforcement that "mommy's coming back soon" will help with her adjustment. Hope it gets easier on her and you soon. Hugs :) |
She's probably lonely now. If you can leave the tv on, that would help drown out any noises. If she can go for walks, that is a good way to wear off some of that anxiety and wear her out a little. She'll be more relaxed. |
Tibbe always gets like that if I give him less of my time 2-3 days in a row. He's got to be very connected and involved or he seems to get edgey and odd acting. We've been so close he's come to expect nothing less and if that changes, he's unsure of what is happening, I think. |
My schedule changes every year from summer to fall. The pups have me all to themselves all summer and then I'm working long hours during the school year. The last two years (since we've had them), Ivan has had a really hard time adjusting to me going back to work in the fall. He got anxious and even had potty setbacks. He will sit for hours and just watch for my car to pull up. It seems to take him a month or so to adjust. He still likes it better when Momma is home all day, but he does adjust. Daddy is home with them, so they aren't alone, but Ivan is Momma's Boy. Iris takes it all in stride. She's an independent little girl. Sounds like Princess just needs some time to adjust to the new schedule. I agree that a good long walk will help, especially if you can give her one before you leave in the morning. Exercise always helps Ivan cope. I know Princess has had some recent health issues so I don't know if she's ready for full exercise but I believe a tired puppy is a happy puppy. I'll be right there with you in another week when I go back to work. |
