Need help please. Our little yorkie has always been happy and in good health. I was ill and did not get to groom her, kept her in full coat. I had to give her a puppy cut. I noticed a small lump on the tip of her ear. She had apparently been scratching it, there was dried blood. Took her to a vet and she said it was probably a benine cyst. Then she came back in and said she would like to send a sample to a lab for testing. This was nearly 5PM on a Thursday. She called Sat. morning and said it was a malignant tumor and wanted to schedule surgery and remove part of her ear. I am in shock. I asked her to fax me a copy of the lab report. Instead, she called back and said since I was so upset the other Vet said he could give her a cortizone injection first to see if it helped. I don't know what to do. We have had since she was 8 weeks old and she is 10 yrs. old now. Anyone ever heard of this? I would do anything to help her but I don't trust them now. Are there any Vets who specialize in this? Thanks! |
That story sounds very strange. First of all, I have never heard of a biopsy report coming back so quickly. Then, for her not to provide the report? And, then to say a cortisone injection would suffice? I would definitely be going to someone for a second opinion. You might want to see if there is a vet dermatologist in your area. Good luck! |
Here is the website for board certified dermatogists: https://www.acvd.org/default.asp You can do a search for one in your area on that site. |
So sorry you are having to go through all of that. I don't have any advice, but I do agree with those saying that it sounds fishy that the vet refused to give you the biopsy report. I would assume 2nd opinions with such a severe diagnosis would be pretty standard and that vets would expect to give out those reports. If I were in your shoes, I would definitely see another veterinarian. |
I would agree that it does sound suspicous. I would definitely seek another opinion. Good luck. |
